Z-Day - 8:50 AM Mountain Daylight Time - At the T-Bone
In the garage-
Dave was working on Wallace’s truck. There was some kind of problem with the brake system and it needed parts. Even if they found the parts in the junkyard it would take about half the day to finish the repairs. But Earl wanted Dave to take his time and therefore he could charge extra for labor.

Bob Larkin, the NPS helicopter pilot, was in the garage as well, working on part of the helicopter. Earl was generous enough to let him use the tools from the garage but balked at any discussion of either helping or allowing either Dave or Mitchell to help out with the helicopter repairs. Neither Dave nor Mitchell knew much about helicopter repair but would be willing to learn. Yet there were other cars in the lot in need of repair as well.

Bob was working on the fuel pump and trying to make repairs.

Bob had spent quite a while to check for leakage in the fuel pump´s connectors and tubings. All the while he had been looking for spare parts around the garage that would be viable to cannibalize to pass as reinforecements to the malfunctioning fuel pump. Might be a way to MacGyver the bird...

To the mechanic he says, "Sure wish we´d gone with a modern gravity flow syste, would´ve spared me some z´s for sure." After inspecting the pump, he adds, "This tank-to-fuel shutoff valve seems busted. Do you guys have any tubings that would help me out with this one?"
He holds up the bent valve and flow-pipes. "20 millimeter diameter."

In the garage-
Dave continued to work on Wallace's rig, a gas tanker. The trailer itself was parked out in the lot, as he was working on the tractor. It was slow going, and he wasn't making good progress. It looked like Wallace would be staying the night. Earl looked over his shoulder, smiling and nodding. As far as he was concerned, Dave was just sandbagging as instructed and not actually at a loss as to how to progress. "Don't forget we still got other cars in the lot," he said. "I'd like to get them out of here by the afternoon. And I expect they'll pay." He turned his head when Bob called out to them. "Like I said, you're free to scrounge, but me and my boys got our own work to do. Find your own damn parts."

Bob soon realized that there was a block in the fuel line. While he could repair the fuel pump, he would have to remove the aviation fuel to drain the line. More importantly, it was unclear whether he would have enough fuel to continue to Omaha. He may need to refuel somewhere along the way.

This could take most of the day. It would go quicker if he had some help.

It hit Bob that the fuel issue could be overlooked if he just ripped out most of the seats and kept one for himself and one for the doctor. The rest of the group could proceed with the state trooper. Getting the doc to the final destination has highest priority.

Mumbling, he leaves the garage to check in with the doctor about changing the travel plan.

"Guys, I´m stripping the bird clean. Would you trade some top of the line seatings for five minutes of hose andling?"

He leaves the sliding doors open to the rear seatings.

In the garage-
"Why would I want your castoffs?" said Earl. "My boys and I have customers to help. Paying customers."
Bob Larkin,Bob realized that there were some serious risks with his plan. The helicopter held five, and while the pilot and co-pilot seats in front were actual seats, the three "seats" in the back were just a cushioned bench built into the helicopter that couldn't be removed. Even with the weight reduction from only carrying him and Dr. Hausmann, he still had serious doubts about whether there would enough fuel to make it all the way to Omaha. It depended on how much he was able to salvage. If just the two of them flew off without their escorts and ended up needing to refuel somewhere, they'd be in terrible danger without anyone else around to protect them. In addition, the helicopter wasn't actually working at the moment, and it would most likely take him all day to repair it by himself. The road conditions between here and Omaha were also unknown, as were the conditions on the ground in Omaha itself, so the group traveling by car might not make it, and if they did, it would probably take all day. This was something he would need to discuss with the others.

The old rustbucket was a rolling pile of junk, only it wasn't rolling anywhere, not yet. Still, he could fix that. This was more his speed than that big rig. The job looked like it would take two hours, but he was sure he could get it done in one, maybe a little less. Earl might not like him getting it done so fast, but he didn't much care what Earl liked.

Finally hearing the commotion outside, Earl stopped working and stepped out of the garage.

Outside the garage-
Baldwin walked across the asphalt from the direction of the diner toward the garage on the east side of the building. Wallace's truck was parked partway out of one of the garage bay doors, or at least the trailer portion of it. The actual tanker was in the lot. Baldwin's own truck was parked outside the garage, as was a clunker of a car that probably wasn't in good shape even before it had broken down nearby. He could hear a young man shouting "Run!" from the junkyard. As Earl emerged from the garage, where he had been working on Wallace's truck, the mechanics Dave and Mitchell rushed out of the junkyard toward him, followed closely by the two dogs Max and Buddy, as well as Jimmy, a wiry teenager he had never seen before. Mitchell was gripping a rusty fender.

"Now what the hell has got you boys all worked up?" asked Earl, holding a greasy wrench absently in his right hand. "You've got the dogs all riled too. Did you find the part? And who's this kid, and what's he doin' here?" Mitchell realized that he had set the part down near the ruined Chevy, and he had not thought to pick it up in his hasty departure.

"Whatever, I'm getting my shotgun," said Earl, heading into the garage ahead of Wallace.

"Something's up with Earl, Mitch," Dave said quietly to his friend. "Did you see how he reacted when you said there was a body under the old Chevy? He was alarmed - but not surprised. You ask me, I think he put that guy there in the first place, or he knows who did. This might be connected to that other thing I told you about."

Jimmy nodded, looking frightened.

The dogs' barking and growling got louder as Baldwin trained his revolver on the movement coming from the junkyard. It soon resolved itself into a man. He was nearly skeletal, much of the skin eaten away by desert creatures. The skin around his mouth had been eaten away, revealing the teeth and skull beneath. One of his eyes was partially consumed, and the hair was stringy and matted. He wore coveralls and shoes. He was about twenty yards away and very slowly shuffling closer. He had three bullet holes: one in the chest, one in the gut, and one in the left thigh, yet he still was somehow on his feet and moving. Baldwin could see to his dismay that the others were not crazy...
OOC,Baldwin, please roll Sanity. Your +20 bonus applies. Sanity loss is 1/1D8, so you lose 1 Sanity if you succeed, but 1D8 if you fail. If you lose 5 or more Sanity, you must roll Idea. If you succeed at the Idea roll, you will go temporarily insane. Otherwise, you may act freely. If you wish to shoot at the man, you are currently at long range, which would normally halve your Handgun skill. However, you may use Precision Aim if you wish to double your base range and negate the skill penalty, at the cost of firing only once this round. Otherwise, you may fire twice. There is plenty of time to do so, as he is moving very slowly and will not be on you for a few more rounds. If you hit, please roll 1D20 on the Missile Weapons Hit Location chart in the Rules and Guidelines thread and 1D10 for damage (2D10 if you get an impale, which is 1/5 or less of your effective skill). Nobody else needs to roll Sanity, as the rest of you have already seen him and done so.

Outside the garage-
Baldwin retreated back to the garage door, which stood open because the trailer to Wallace's truck was parked partway in the bay, thus preventing it from closing. Dave and Mitchell fled back inside the garage, squeezing past the truck, with Jimmy right behind them. The dogs followed Baldwin back and stood on either side of him, growling at the man, who took no notice. He continued to lumber forward slowly, advancing on Baldwin with his arms outstretched. He was now just about four yards away, close enough for Baldwin to tell just how horrible he smelled and to see the bullet holes in detail. They looked bigger than wounds that could be caused by the dinky .38 revolver he gripped, and they had failed to stop him, though the leg wound appeared to have at least slowed him down.
OOC,The zombie is now at point blank range for you, Baldwin. If you choose to fire, you will get off two shots before the zombie gets to attack you. Point blank range means that your Handgun skill is doubled. Even though this is more than 100%, you should still roll in case of a malfunction or an impale. For each hit, please roll 1D10 for damage (2D10 if an impale) and 1D20 for a random hit location. If you choose to retreat into the garage, you may do so without having to roll, and the zombie will not get to attack you this round, as you can stay ahead of it. Retreating in any other direction means that you'll need to roll against DEX x 5 to get out of the zombie's reach before it attacks.

Earl took a step back, dropping the papers, “What the hell…I thought you was dead?” he said, poleaxed. Hammond came in behind him with a larger shotgun and gaped in horror. Hammond stepped to the side and stood next to his brother, aiming at the intruder and shooting him square in the chest. While he was knocked back briefly, it did not drop him. Earl fired a split second later, blasting him in the head. He finally fell to the garage floor, unmoving.

Bo poked his head around the edge of the open bay and looked into the garage. "All good here?" he asked.

Bo entered the garage, followed by Gary.

"Damn straight," said Earl. "I thought he was crazy 'til I saw that thing for myself."

"The bastard bit me!" called Wallace. "Hurts like hell, and my head feels like it's on fire. I think I need a doctor."
Gary,Gary could see Hammond and Earl at the back of the garage, holding shotguns. Dave stood off to the side, along with some tall kid he'd never seen before. Dave gripped a wrench, and Mitchell, who had moved close to the door through which they had entered, held his baseball bat. Baldwin was standing nearby with his revolver drawn, and Wallace was in the cab of his truck with his rifle. But what got his attention the most was the dead man lying on the garage floor. He had been shot repeatedly by handguns and shotguns. He was nearly skeletal, much of the skin eaten away. One of the shotgun blasts had blown his face to bits. He wore coveralls and shoes.
Gary, please roll Sanity. Sanity loss is 1/1D4+1. If you lose 5 Sanity, please roll Idea. "Fu##, this is one weird day."

Baldwin thought they were done for when the cop turned up, "Yeah Earl, I'll move the body no problem."

He looks at the broken down truck, "Maybe we can get that part from the yard now that this thing's dead again, but couldn't we tow it out first?

"Could use the tractor from my rig."
OOC:   I can't remember if there's a tow truck here?

Also, I'm not sure if "tractor" is the right word for American English? I mean the front part of the "tractor/trailer" rig.

In the garage-
Baldwin had no problem finding a tarp and laying it out in an open area far from anything flammable, and he and Jimmy were able to lay out the dead body on top of it.

"Thanks," said Earl. "There's a jerry can of gas over on the bench. Once that thing is taken care of, you can use the tow truck to pull the tractor outside so we can close the door. Keys are on the board on the wall." He glared at Dave and Mitchell. "What are you two standing around here lollygagging for? Go back out to the junkyard and get that damn part!"
OOC,I think tractor is the right word, but it's the tractor of Wallace's truck that's parked in the bay, so another tractor wouldn't be able to pull it out. The tanker from Wallace's truck has been separated and is out in the parking lot. It makes sense that there would be a tow truck, though.

In the garage-
"MEDIC coming in," called Bo. He leaned into garage, still holding his shotgun, as Dr. Hausmann squeezed past him. He was just in time to see Baldwin use a lighter to ignite the now gas-soaked corpse, which was lying on a tarp in an open area. He held a jerry can in his other hand. The smell was appalling.

Dave followed Mitchell outside.

Hammond, Earl, and Jimmy were still standing around in the back.

Wallace climbed out of the truck's cab, his rifle slung over his shoulder. "Bastard bit me in the leg," he said to Gary. "I shot him twice, but he wouldn't go down." He approached Brigetta. "I don't feel so good, doc. I'm burning up."
OOC,Baldwin, please roll Sanity for burning the corpse. Sanity loss is 0/1D4. Everyone else currently in the garage, please roll Sanity with a Sanity loss of 0/1D2 for watching it.

Kimberly stood outside the garage, holding a shotgun in her hands. She was a beautiful, dark-skinned Latina in a pantsuit. Stephanie, a blonde in a lab coat, stood beside her, looking worried. Mitchell and Dave emerged from the garage on their way to the junkyard. The dogs were lounging around near the garage entrance.

"What happened in there?" asked Kimberly. "We heard shotguns going off."

To anyone paying close attention the Doctor is visibly shaken. As the scene comes into view her eyes quickly widen and for a second she looks like she might turn right back around. She quickly recovers however, despite a slightly shaking hand as she snaps on a pair of black rubber gloves and secures a cotton mask over her face. She quietly mutters to herself in German before getting straight to work in assessing the patient and briskly beginning treatment, without making conversation. Her hands are now rock solid.

Brigetta made sure the tourniquet around Wallace's leg was tight, then she removed the bandage to clean and disinfect the wound before redressing it. "Thanks, doc," said the truck driver. "I still feel like hell, though."

Dr. Brigetta Hausmann,Wallace had an obvious fever; his forehead was hot to the touch. His symptoms seemed more like poisoning to her than some sort of infection, though she had at first suspected the latter. It seemed more like a snakebite than anything else, though he had clearly been bitten by a man, apparently the very one that was now engulfed in flames. That was a shame. There's no telling what she might have learned by performing an autopsy on the corpse. The tourniquet would keep him alive for a while, but unless she could find some way to counteract the poison - which required identifying it first - he would be dead in a matter of hours. Analysis of his blood might help, but that would require time and a laboratory.
The Sanity loss was only 1D2, not 1D8. I rolled it for you.
Outside the garage-
"Dead guy came back to life, tried to eat us, got blasted with shotguns," said Dave as he hurried to follow Mitchell into the junkyard. The dogs trotted after them.

"Um, what?!" said Stephanie.

Baldwin emerged from the garage, where he saw Kimberly and Stephanie nearby. The tow truck was parked near the entrance.

In the junkyard-
Mitchell and Dave returned to the junkyard and found the part just where they had left it. The empty hole beneath the Chevy where the corpse had been buried was a haunting reminder of what had just happened.

Outside the garage-
"Oh my God," gasped Stephanie when Brigetta whispered to her. "Is there anything we can do for him?"

Dave, Mitchell, and the dogs returned, Mitchell carrying the part.

Baldwin got behind the wheel of the tow truck and started the engine.

"Really, it shouldn't even take that long, but somebody - I won't name names - screwed it up worse while we were away. The longer it takes to fix, the more he can charge for the labor. Our paychecks remain the same, of course."

Baldwin shut off the engine of the tow truck and got out now that the truck was out of the bay, taking the keys with him. He followed Bo, Stephanie, and Brigetta as they went into the garage. Stephanie shook her head slightly as she went past Gary, a sad look on her face. Kimberly remained outside and stood near Gary. "What a day," she said with a sigh.

In the garage-
Hammond and Earl watched as the flames died out, having run out of flesh to burn. The charred bones were all that remained, lying on the tarp. "He won't be getting back up again," said Earl, shaking his head. "Can someone who's not too busy roll up that tarp and toss it in the junkyard? You, kid!" He pointed at Jimmy. "You're plenty strong. You're not even supposed to be here! Take it out and dump it!" Jimmy rolled up the tarp and shouldered it without even thinking about it.

Stephanie and Brigetta went over to where Wallace sat, while Bo stood watch. "We're just going to draw a little blood from you, so we can test it," she said to Wallace with a smile plastered over her face. "It might hurt a little."

"Probably won't notice, everything else hurts so much," said Wallace.

"Your truck doesn't look like it's in good shape either," said Bo.

"Yeah, it won't be going anywhere for a while yet."

"We need one to haul a load of fuel to Brownson, just a few miles away. It has to get there pretty soon."

"Sorry, can't help you. Even if the truck were in working order, I'm not. Baldwin might be able to help you out, though." He nodded to Baldwin, who had reached the entrance.

"Understood, sir," said Bo, looking Baldwin in the eyes. "It's a few barrels of aviation fuel. There's a lady State Trooper coming in to Brownson in a chopper that'll be running on fumes. It's just a few miles away, but she can't make it this far. That's the absolute closest she can get, so we need to bring the fuel to her and secure a landing site for her. She's due to land in a little less than half an hour. We'll also be bringing passengers out to her, but they can ride in my cruiser. There are a couple of scientists-" he gestured to Stephanie and Brigetta, "and their escorts who need to get to Omaha. I have orders to assist them in reaching Omaha as my top priority. "We don't have a whole lot of time," Bo continued, speaking to Baldwin. "We'd appreciate it if you'd help us out, and we'd gladly compensate you for it."

"The trooper's as good as his word," said Baldwin. "Besides, we both know you've got some code violations in here. You really want him staying here and poking around? Who knows what he'll find?"

Jimmy came back inside and tossed the dirty tarp on the floor in a corner. "The mechanic said to tell you we've got company," he said.

Baldwin snatched up his keys. "All right, Trooper," he said to Bo. "You'll take care of the bill for me later, and I'll drive your fuel to Brownson in my rig. Deal?"

"Deal," said Bo, shaking his hand with a firm grip. "All right, ladies, let's be on our way."

"Feel better, man," Baldwin said to Wallace as he walked by.

"Thanks," groaned Wallace, who was still in sorry shape and looked to be getting worse.

Brigetta and Stephanie went outside with Bo and Baldwin.

Samantha kept walking around the building.

Behind the T-Bone-
Samantha walked around the corner and found herself behind the building. The garage had no further entrances here, but it was attached to the diner. There were a couple of fire doors on this side, but they had no apparent means of opening from here. Presumably they were meant to be opened only from the inside. Beside the nearer of the two doors was the dumpster she had sought.

Samantha,Samantha heard voices clearly through the door. "Where the hell are Charlie and Thomas?" asked a man, his voice full of pain and anguish. "They probably slipped out the back while the getting was good," said Rosie the waitress. "Liquor closet," said Horst. "Now. I want those guns." "That way," said the first man's voice. This was followed by the sound of a door opening. The shot had come from the dirt road between the T-Bone and the motel. It was probably the sniper who was stationed there.
Outside the garage-
Gary and Kimberly heard a single shot ring out from the opposite side of the diner.

In the back room-
A single shot rang out from somewhere outside, which kept Mitchell from hearing anything else.
Mitchell,Mitchell gave the office a much better inspection than Wallace's cursory glance, and he found something that the truck driver had missed. Gary,Gary could see the skinheads' vehicles parked on the dirt road far to the west, halfway between the diner and the motel, both of them facing north. The panel van was in front, but the driver was very dead. What little was visible of him was a bloody mess. Another skinhead lay dead in the bed of the pickup truck, his leg neatly severed. The police cruiser pulled onto the highway and did a U-turn, but Baldwin's truck stopped and Baldwin hopped out, his revolver drawn. Beyond the dirt road, Gary could see that Mr. Foo lay in a pool of blood halfway between the road and the motel clutching a submachine gun, unmoving. He had a hole in his chest. Ms. Foo, Ellen Cody, and Cathy Lathan and her two sons ran out from the motel's front door. The smaller boy had a pistol and a baseball bat. Then the impossible happened. Outside the garage-
Gary hit the skinhead in the back as he toppled over the edge of the truck's bed and disappeared from sight. A few seconds later, two more skinheads emerged from the diner's front doors. The first one had an M-16 with an underbarrel grenade launcher attached, and the other had a pump shotgun. They were looking in his direction at first, but then Baldwin strode forward and fired two shots at the first skinhead. One struck him full in the chest, but it did little more than knock him back slightly. Jim Kerr had also gotten out of the truck, which he was using for cover as he followed Baldwin. The skinhead with the M-16 fired a grenade at Baldwin, which ripped his left arm to shreds!

Samantha stepped into the garage.

Gary had luckily been spared, as Kimberly had blocked the pellets from hitting him.

Dave, Jimmy, and the dogs followed Mitchell back out of the office.

In the garage-
Dave, Mitchell, the dogs, and Jimmy emerged from the back office. Dave quietly shut the door behind them.

Samantha and Wallace carried the ladder outside.

Outside the garage-
Gary pulled Kimberly around the corner and out of the line of fire, which was easy considering that he was strong and she was slender. She was still unconscious and bleeding, however. Samantha and Wallace came out of the garage and leaned the ladder against the wall. There was another pistol shot, followed by a shotgun blast and a rifle shot.

"Crap." samantha sighs as she sees the wounded woman. She considers pretending not to notice but instead leans the ladder against the wall ready to be used. She kicks a couple of stones against the bottom to stabilise it.
"Go grab a first aid kit- I assume you got one in the garage." She orders Wallace.
"Put her on the floor here and then go back and guard that corner." She orders the man and then she prepares to do some fast, messy first aid.

"Yeah, the doctor just used it on me earlier," said Wallace. "Let me help you with her." He and Samantha picked up the unconscious Kimberly and brought her inside the garage.

Outside the garage-
There was no movement that Gary could see in the parking lot. There was some commotion between the motel and the dirt road. The old Chinese man was being helped up and back toward the motel by the maid, with the Lathan family close behind. The old Chinese woman was running as fast as she could move, which wasn't very fast, across the highway and toward the motel. On the highway across from diner, the police cruiser was stopped. Sean was standing behind it, his rifle aimed across the roof toward the diner. Two skinheads lay dead in front of the diner's front doors, and Jim Kerr had taken cover behind the truck. Baldwin was also dead next to him, his leg missing and his arm in tatters. There may have been more happening that he couldn't see, but the building and the vehicles blocked his view. Then he glanced behind him and saw a small group of people on I-80 almost a mile to the east, slowly walking this way.

Dave held the ladder while Mitchell climbed it.

On the roof of the garage-
Mitchell reached the top of the ladder and took a good look around, seeing everything that Gary had seen below. He also saw the skinhead sniper, dead and motionless some ten yards beyond the pickup truck. Gary wasn't able to see him, as the truck blocked his view, but elevation gave Mitchell the edge. The garage was connected to the diner, and he'd be able to reach the roof of the diner just by walking across. There might have been more to see, but he couldn't see it from here with the building blocking his view.

In the garage-
Kimberly regained consciousness and moaned in pain. "Thank you," she said, weakly. "I thought I was done for back there. What's happening? I can't hear any more shooting."

In the garage-
Kimberly left the garage with Wallace and Samantha.

On the roof of the garage-
Mitchell crossed over to the diner's roof.

On the roof of the diner-
From his new position, Mitchell could see more.
Mitchell,Mitchell saw four skinheads running for their vehicles on the dirt road with two female hostages. One of the skinheads with a pistol had one of the hostages by the arm and had brought her nearly all the way to the van. The other three were clustered around the other hostage. Two of them had shotguns, and the third had a pistol and was holding onto her with his other hand. They were more than halfway to the van.
Outside the garage-
"Hey, Wallace!" called Dave, hearing Jim's shout. "Someone needs you over in front of the diner!"

When Wallace emerged with Samantha and Kimberly, he hurried around the corner to the diner.

Max tried to climb the ladder, but he only ended up toppling it.

Outside the garage-
Gunfire erupted suddenly from the front of the diner, around the corner. So did screaming. Samantha managed to scale the ladder.

On the roof of the garage-
Samantha reached the top of the ladder. From here she could see the police cruiser and Baldwin's truck out on the highway just to the south, both of them heading east. The skinheads' vehicles were still parked on the dirt road well to the west. She couldn't see the area directly in front of the diner from here where the shooting was coming from, however. She would have to move to the diner's roof for that, as Kimberly was doing now.

On the roof of the diner-
Kimberly reached where Mitchell had fallen, and then she saw what he had.
Kimberly,Looking down from the edge of the roof, Kimberly was horrified to see the two dead skinheads now on their feet and closing in on the hapless priest in front of the diner's doors, who had retrieved their weapons. He was shooting one of them with the M-16, and more bullets struck the dead man from within the diner, but he barely was even slowed. He lunged forward and wrapped its arms around the priest in a death grip. Then the other one came up behind him and bit a massive chunk out of the priest's right arm. Baldwin was moving too, albeit very slowly with only one working arm and one leg. He had dragged himself halfway to the priest. All three of the men she knew to be dead had red eyes. "Killing who?" Samantha asks aloud. "More skinheads?" She's very surprised to see Kimberly raise her shotgun and fire it. "Has everyone gone mad? They (the skinheads) wouldn't shoot the dogs would they? That's barbaric!"

She is far more upset with the idea of the dogs being killed than the people. She looks anxiously down the ladder. "Is there a rope or something?"

"They can generally look after themselves," said Dave. "One thing they can't do, as you saw earlier, is climb a ladder, and I can't climb one either if I'm carrying fifty pounds of dog. There might be a rope inside the garage that could be used to make a harness." He began to climb the ladder.

On the roof of the diner-
"It's the same skinheads!" called Kimberly. "They were dead, but they're moving now! They're eating the priest!" Then there was a massive explosion from the parking lot. "Oh sh-" Kimberly shouted as she threw herself flat next to Mitchell, but the sound of another huge explosion cut her off.

On the roof of the garage-
As the white van drove away to the north on the dirt road, the explosions shook the building. Columns of orange and black flame and smoke rose from where the gas pumps had once stood. The ladder began to wobble as Dave was about to crest the roof. It toppled over, and he fell with it, landing next to Jimmy. Amazingly enough, he was uninjured.

On the roof of the diner-

On the roof of the garage-
Neither Samantha nor Gary could see the area directly in front of the diner from their current position, so they couldn't see what Kimberly had told them was happening. The explosion would have reduced the parking lot to a parking lot if it hadn't already been one. As it was, the pumps were gone, columns of flame and smoke rising into the sky from where they had once stood. The helicopter that had been in the parking lot had been blown to pieces, and none of the vehicles parked there looked like they were going anywhere any time soon, with damage ranging from shredded tires and shattered glass to being completely gutted. The white pickup truck that the skinheads had left in the dirt road between the T-Bone and the motel was intact, however, as it had been far enough from ground zero. Their panel van was no longer within sight.

Samantha gives Dave a scathing look.
"Why should I help the owners of the diner? They are obviously crooks or something and have brought the trouble with the skinheads on themselves. And no I'm not a cop; I'm a park ranger and I prefer to help animals over generally useless humans."
She relents a little.
"If you want to go down there I'll cover you." She is holding a rifle and has a shotgun slung over her shoulder.

On the roof of the garage-
All was quiet as Dave and Samantha conversed.

On the roof of the diner-
Gary made his way to the west side of the roof. From there, he could see the skinheads' pickup truck on the dirt road. About ten yards past it was a dead skinhead, and there was another one a short distance north of it by the side of the road, the bodies riddled with bullets and motionless. All was quiet.

"We can't stay up here forever," said Kimberly. "Sooner or later, we'll need water and food."

"you just stay alert."
Dave takes lead on Samantha's offer, "you know we have to move one way or another, it's just matter of time now."
Dave again scans the garage front..
"What if those skinheads waiting in on backup from their base, and yes if you haven't noticed already, there are dead bodies getting back to life around this junkyard."

Mitchell/Gary,The dead skinheads could have weapons and ammo on them. They wouldn't have anything bigger than knives or pistols, or they'd be visible, but that would be better than nothing. Of course, someone would have to go down there to search them and retrieve anything of use. The ladder could be lowered from the west side of the roof to minimize the distance, but they were still fifty plus yards away. There also could be some larger weapons in the diner's entrance, though there was no telling what was going on inside the place.

OOC,The only weapons on the roof are the ones you brought with you. Anyone who looks over the south side of the roof into the parking lot can see the M-16 and shotgun that the priest picked up lying in the entrance of the diner. I believe Jimmy already looked that way and passed his Spot Hidden roll, so he sees them. They may have been damaged or dirtied in the blast. Baldwin's revolver had been dropped in the parking lot, but that was destroyed by the explosion. The motel is a hundred yards west of the diner. The skinheads' truck is fifty yards west of the diner. It looks okay, but the only way to tell if it works would be to go over there and try to drive it.

"No I don't have a walkie-talkie on me and I'm not sure my car one is working but I bet some of the trucks will have CB radios. It's a good idea and our best bet for communication now that the mobile network is down." Samantha scans the roof of all the buildings for the telltale aerials of the ham radio buff.

"Can anyone use a shotgun-I mean, use it well? I've got limited ammunition so we can't go wasting it on a rookie. And I'm not letting anyone walk off with it either." Samantha says sternly and looks around the group.

"If not, I'll save it for when the rifle runs out and then I'll use it myself. It's only good for short range anyway. I'll use the rifle now to cover whoever is going down. Don't forget though; if you go inside a building you're on your own.

On the roof of the diner-
Samantha and Kimberly crossed over to the roof of the garage where the ladder had been left to cover Jimmy, leaving Dave, Mitchell, and Gary. She didn't see any ham radio aerials, but she did notice that the motel had a huge satellite dish - and the dish was currently rotating.

On the roof of the garage-
Jimmy picked up the ladder and leaned it against the garage wall, then climbed back down to ground level.

Outside the garage-
Jimmy reached the bottom of the ladder. Max and Buddy got up and trotted over to him, barking and wagging their tails.

Outside the garage-
Jimmy headed around the corner to the parking lot in front of the diner, the dogs following at his heels.

In the parking lot-
Jimmy and the dogs reached the front of the diner. There were no bodies in the immediate area; the two dead skinheads were fifty or more yards to the west, toward the motel. However, the M-16 and the shotgun that the skinheads had dropped lay in front of the entrance. The floor to ceiling windows had been blown out in the blast. A trail of blood smears led from the diner's entrance and into the kitchen, which was not visible from outside.
OOC,Jimmy, if you want to collect the dropped weapons, please roll Luck.
On the roof of the garage-
"Sure," said Kimberly. "Maybe the folks at the motel know how to use it."

In the parking lot-
Jimmy picked up both long guns and found that they were in excellent condition. They had not been damaged by the blast or by being dropped, and there didn't even seem to be any blood on them. The rifle was an M-16 with an M203 grenade launcher attached underneath the barrel. This was empty, but the magazine was mostly full, with 23 bullets loaded. Another bullet was in the chamber. However, the grenade launcher was empty. The shotgun was a pump action 12-gauge weapon. It had three shells loaded out of a maximum of five. Both weapons had straps that allowed them to be carried over the shoulder. There was no ammunition visible anywhere, just a bunch of empty shell casings.

Samantha looks over to the motel. She's not too keen on the idea and imagines herself shut in a small room with too many people, any people, with no where to run, waiting, waiting...

She walks over to where she can see the motel as best as she can. It has a walkway around the first floor rooms, that wouldn't be too bad. But the roof would be better; she's accustomed to spending days outside. She looks to see if she could get onto the roof. There must be some way up to repair that SAT dish. She returns to the ladder.
