Harry looks apprasingly at Meddler. He may not be the best judge of character but he does not trust the man. 'I'm game, we should take shifts as Dr Campbell suggests. Miss Miller, perhaps we can take the first watch and Dr Campbell and Lt Meddler the second?' Harry resolves to keep a close eye on Lt Meddler tonight, but without Meddler knowing. He suspects there might be a nocturnal sojourn down to the quarry.
”That would be agreeable to me,” said Vic through gritted teeth. ’At least I won’t have to suffer the company of that pompous prig!’ she thought, looking balefully at Meddler.
Harry would like to see what Meddler is up to when he isn't standing watch - i.e. that he isn't sneaking out. Maybe he could search a fireplace while he waits if nothing is going on
