IC-Highway to Hell(Randall/David/Tisha/Willie/Felice)

A group of strangers at a highway truck stop must cooperate to survive as the world becomes overwhelmed with legions of the living dead. But more terror awaits them as they race to prevent the end of mankind and the coming of the Zombie Apocalypse. IC-Highway to Hell(Randall/David/Tisha/Willie/Felice)

Postby Mr. Handy » Thu Nov 08, 2018 5:15 am

Z-Day - 8:58 AM Mountain Daylight Time - On I-80 West
On the highway-
Tisha drove the news van west from the T-Bone on I-80. Willie sat beside her in the middle of the van's front seat, and Randall occupied the shotgun seat. Behind the van, David drove his big rig down the road. I-80 was a two-lane highway running across flat land. There were no guardrails here, nor was there a median divider separating the westbound lanes from the two eastbound lanes to their left. There were a couple of small towns, Potter and Dix, in this direction, but the nearest big town was Kimball, several miles away. The interstate led directly across the Wyoming border and into Cheyenne, the nearest big city, some forty miles away. F. E. Warren Air Force Base was situated just west of Cheyenne, its front gates accessible from the city.

Spoiler:
Everyone, please roll Spot Hidden. The base skill is 25%.

Spoiler:
It wasn't so much what Tisha saw as what she didn't see. There was a little traffic on the road, but all of it was heading east, passing them going in the other direction. Aside from her news van and the truck behind her, there was absolutely no traffic heading west.

On the highway-
Randall glanced over at Willie. "Now's probably a good time to teach me how to be a sound man," he said.

David could see clearly down the road. He was about two miles east of Potter now, and everything was smooth so far.

Spoiler:
Your roll didn't take, so I rolled for you.

Mr. Handy rolled 1d100:

Spoiler:
It wasn't so much what David saw as what he didn't see. There was a little traffic on the road, but all of it was heading east, passing them going in the other direction. Aside from the news van behind him and his truck, there was absolutely no traffic heading west. He could even manage to see Potter in the distance, to the north of the highway, though he couldn't make out the details until he got closer.

On the highway-
Randall nodded and made sure his door was locked while Willie instructed him in the finer points of holding a microphone. The vehicles moved down the highway another mile or so.

Spoiler:
The buildings of Potter came into view in the distance ahead, to the north of the highway. At the turnoff, she could see two figures on the ground, one of them on top of the other, but she couldn't make out the details.

Spoiler:
Potter was now about a mile away, the buildings becoming a little clearer. At the turnoff just south of the small town, he could see a girl, but he thought twice about picking her up under the circumstances as he got closer. There was a man lying on his back on the highway's shoulder, and she was straddling him and eating his face. Literally eating his face. She may have been pretty once, but one of her eyes was gone, blood oozing from the empty socket.

Spoiler:
David, please roll Sanity. Sanity loss is 1/1D8, so you lose 1 Sanity if you succeed or 1D8 if you fail. If you lose 5 or more Sanity, please roll Idea. If you succeed at the Idea roll, you will go temporarily insane. As long as you do not go temporarily insane, you may act freely.

"What the hell?" Tisha slows down slightly as she comes closer to the people, trying to get a better look. The rioting must be worse than she thought.Still, she's reluctant to stop and get sidetracked.

Not hesitating helping out a girl in obvious distress, David hits the brakes. The rig isn´t quick to come to a halt, though. Somehow, there must have been an accident. In his head he thinks about what to grab as first aid. A toilet roll? That will do for starters.

Spoiler:
He obviously wast shook by the blood. He didn´t intelligably grasp what was going on and is eager to help. That can change as he gets closer to the situation. In this case he sees what he wants to see.

On the highway-
Tisha slowed down the news van as she approached the turnoff to the right to Potter. David also reduced speed behind her, bringing his truck to a halt just before it. On the shoulder, she and the others with her could clearly see a man lying on his back with a woman straddling him. The man was motionless, and the woman was chewing on his nose. Then she suddenly stopped, stood up, and turned toward the vehicles. One of her eyes was gone, blood oozing from the empty socket. The other was an angry red. A moan escaped her lips. Then the man sat up, his eyes opening. They were red as well.

Tisha lets out several curses as she sees the scene in front of her.

"Are you fu*king getting this, Willie? My God, she's eating him!"

Now, Tisha was an ambitious journalist who desperately wanted her big break, but she also wanted to be alive to enjoy her big break. She'll try and drive away from the pair before they get close. Hopefully Willie gets enough time to get some footage, but she's not going to risk letting these things get close when she has no weapon to speak of.

If only I had brought my gun. Damn it. Well, this makes getting to the army base all the more important.

David has second thoughts. This is no rescue mission. This is a lost cause. Somehow. He drops the roll of paper and puts the truck in first gear, creeping to a slow start, sure not to bump into any vehicle or injured people.

On the highway-
Willie, while he had seen all sorts of horrible things in his long career, was nonetheless shocked - though he still had the presence of mind to take his camera and start filming the two people by the side of the road. "I'm getting it, Tish," he said.

Randall was even more stunned. "I'm getting it, Tish," he echoed.

Tisha drove past the two as the man on the shoulder stood up. He and the woman lurched after the news van, but they were safely past. Then David followed in his truck, also getting past them before they could reach his vehicle. Looking in the side mirrors, they could see that the couple were following them. The woman was running at a rather high rate of speed, but the man staggered at a more sedate pace. Both of them fell back as the vehicles gained speed and were soon lost to sight. The vehicles crossed the invisible line between Cheyenne County and Kimball County.

"Whatever this is, it's not just a riot," parroted Randall. "I'm glad you got some footage though, Willie. That will be gold for us."

Willie looked over at him. "You okay, kid?" he asked.

"You okay, kid?"

The vehicles sped down the road, which was thankfully clear ahead. They were now a mile outside of Dix.
