[Thorn]

Brook sighs and sits with her back against the wall. She watches Lucius with concern, and tries to keep the nagging anxiety about what will happen to them at bay.

Lucius with the face still at the wall and the creature out of his sight was finally calming down. But his mind was still racing to find a way out of there far from those beast.

The only way out was through those creatures. Lucius knew from bitter experience that they could not hope to overcome them by themselves. Trying it had only gotten them injured. Their only hope was that Elizabeth would bring back help.

Brook fiddles discreetly with the manacle on her leg, while trying to come up with a cunning plan to escape.

Escape seemed impossible as long as these creatures were watching them. Fighting them by themselves was clearly out of the question, as she had seen what happened the last time they had tried. Their only hope was that Elizabeth would bring back help.

Seeing the futility of their resistance Story exhales deeply and resigns himself to their momentary fate. He leans his head upon the wall and closes his eyes. As he does he says, "Don't struggle my friends... just rest. We're going to need all of our strength when the time comes."

Brook looks at Story, and says quietly:"I just wanted to say...It's been great travelling with you. A series of adventures. I would never have experienced them without you. Thank you."

Story looks over at Brook and a tear runs down his cheek. He momentarily smiles at her whiling saying, "It has been an honor my dear." He wipes the tear away and looks towards Lucius before once more leaning his head against the wall and closing his eyes.

Brook could clearly hear the sound of something heavy being moved in the distance and above.

Brook looks at the other two. "Did you hear that?" she whispers.

Story opens his eyes and casually sits up as he also hears something. In response to Brook's query he merely gives her a lazy thumbs up in hopes of not rousing the beastmen's attention.

Lucius slowly turn toward Brook with interogation on his face. He then concentrate opening his ears. Hoping to ear help arriving.

Unfortunately he heard nothing.

Story and Brook could hear Caelia call out from the direction of the earlier sound: "Please stop! Let me help this guard, he's badly wounded; I'm a surgeon and if he's not tended to immediately you might lose him."

"There's no time," said Akana. "Your friends are too near. Get her below. You two hide the entrance, then join the fight."

Footsteps sounded on the stairs as the heavy object was moved again, and they walked past the entrance to the creatures' room, though the beasts themselves blocked anyone from view. It sounded like there were three people.

"Nobody will find you down here," Akana said. "Scaevola may have been blinded by his infatuation for you, but I saw through you. Did you really think you could supplant me?"

[Mr. Handy]

The footsteps proceeded past the doorway leading to the creatures' room.

"I can't think of one reason I'd wish to supplant you, whoever you are. You can't be that important in Scaevola's mind else I'd have heard of you." Caelia replied haughtily. "It must be dire having to spend most of your time below ground in these damp caves. You yourself must be infatuated with Scaevola to ever put up with this lifestyle."

"I spend most of my time in the villa above," said Akana, "and I am not infatuated with Scaevola. I love him, and he loves me. I am his apprentice, and he has taught me much of the ways of magic. Hold her down on the altar."

[Thorn]

Brook looks at Story, alarmed. "What can we do?!" She looks to their guards, in dismay, realising there's nothing they can do to help Caelia. Being a teenager, she does the only thing she can think of: screams at the top of her lungs, hoping to at least distract the guards.

[Mr. Handy]

"Who's that?" asked Caelia. "What's happening?"

"Help!" came Caelia's scream from the distance, loud enough for everyone to hear.

Spoiler:

"It is just one of the prisoners," said Akana. "She must have gotten a look at one of her...guards."

The sound of the heavy object being moved in the distance and above came again.

Story looks at the beastmen and shouts, "Quick you fools! We may be prisoners, but we don't wish to die by the hands of a traitor. Out there..." He points in the direction of Caelia's voice, "a member of the Brotherhood is about to be murdered by a traitor! Can't you hear their scuffle?" He shakes his bindings, "We're going nowhere, you made sure of that. Scaevola would be proud. However, he will be quiet upset if you let a companion of his be murdered behind your backs all because you choose to ignore the situation at hand!"
