NAME: Lepus

INSPIRATION: Catweazle, Fagin (Oliver Twist), Vinculus (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell)

CHARACTER CLASS: Hedge Wizard (Gypsy/Magician) (+2 wisdom)

BACKGROUND: Lepus was born somewhere in Eastern Europe into an obscure Gypsy tinker clan of sinister reputation. From an early age he was known as being 'faerie bred'. He would often be found talking to trees, singing to rivers or laughing at the moon.
Singer of unusual songs and baffling rhymes, some of the clan elders would have exiled the boy, were it not for fear of offending the fairies, whose blood no doubt flowed in his veins. Others positively valued his strangeness, being practitioners of the mystic arts themselves, and trained Lepus in the rough magick that passed for clan lore.
As the clan wandered from place to place mending pots and sharpening knives, Lepus studied as much as he could, given the circumstances. Mixing arcane knowledge with the vital Roma skills of survival, the young man grew proficient in both. Ever the outsider, he eventually grew tired of life within the clan and set out on his own to experience the wider world and all the hidden mysteries within.

PERVERSITY: 12

PERSONALITY: Lepus can best be described as 'strange', or possibly 'mad as a march hare'. He may appear overly deferential and obsequious, but his eyes will always betray the scheming and cunning within. He will often chuckle when no joke has been said, sing when no tune is played or yelp when no blow has been struck.

APPEARANCE: Hunched and scruffy, Lepus usually resembles a walking pile of rags. At best his clothes are a mass of patches, the most recognisable items being his long overcoat and battered tricorne hat. The whole ensemble is usually garnished with a magpie's nest of wooden carvings, stones, glass and pieces of metal. Physically he is tough, thin and wiry with a beard almost as long as he is tall.

MOST MEMORABLE CHARACTERISTIC: The ink on his body. Lepus' form is covered with strange symbols, tattooed in various places. These may be spells that he has learned, occult pictograms he has unearthed or maybe just pretty pictures conjured up by his fevered imagination.
