IC

The player characters are agents of a secret conspiracy within the U.S. government known as Delta Green. The Group (as it is known) has pulled some strings within the agents' day jobs to get them sent to Afghanistan, and now they have a mission. DG's insistence on operational security means that the agents know next to nothing about what they're doing other than: Collect intelligence, and, if a supernatural threat exists, end it.

Cultists Tyner figures. Could be trouble. Best to approach this with our eyes wide open.

You reach the base of the limestone cliffs. Dalir and Farhaad are already waiting for you there. Farhaad is in his late teens, and appears to be related to Dalir (his brother you would assume based on their ages). The two guides point out the entrance to the temple above you. It is a black, uneven crack in the limestone about five feet across and twenty feet high. The path up the cliff takes two hours, but the two villagers have brought show you exactly where the hands and footholds are. You know that this path would be significantly more difficult without them. Once you reach the threshold, you see that steps have been carved roughly by hand over countless years. Farhaad begins to make camp at the top of these stairs, and Dalir says in his native tongue, "Go, I'm sure your friend will be pleased to see you. Farhaad and I will wait here for your return."

Tyner figures he can trust these two guys as much as anybody else; he can't really read anything out of their expressions.

Craig and Rahimi can, thanks in no small part to the understanding of the villager's language, tell that the two guides are filled with an excited almost nervous energy.

"They seem filled with some kind of nervous energy," says Craig, "like they're anticipating something is going to happen. Hard to say whether they're happy about it or not. Even if they think it's good for them, it might not necessarily be good for us."

"Should we leave someone behind to watch them? We could all start to head down the stairs and then I could turn around and sneak back up here," says Alex gesturing to the great, carved steps.

You descend between sheer walls of uncarved stone, unevenly, farther and farther. Light from above is soon lost. Not long after Alex splits off from the group, Rahimi points out that the walls are no longer limestone but are instead a strange, green-black substance. The green-black stone is cold and damp to the touch and seems to leave naked fingers dry as if it sucked the oil from the surface of the skin. When the stairs end at last, you find yourselves in a vast chamber. The walls and floor are shaped more intricately than the long stairs. Ahead of you are yet more chambers.

OOC:   Make Conx5 checks please, and is anyone using night vision goggles or are all of you relying on flashlights?

Craig:
Spoiler:
As Craig looks at the walls he sees complex patterns and designs etched into the green-black rock. The more he looks, the more he is able to discern. He sees countless stars flaring to supernova, and living things of uncertain form and size flying between them; the passage of vast epochs of time; then the Earth itself, its continents merged into one, and those formless things flying to the young planet. There are other things depicted as well, but they make little sense to him.
