With the path up the hill revealed, Sefina hurries along, but soon the path seems to end. She looks around carefully for a way forward.

Spoiler:
You don't actually lose any cards. Your Flashlight reduces the Shroud to 0, and the minimum value you can have, even with a -5, is 0. That means your first draw succeeded, so you keep the Amulet. The second draw is an Elder Sign, which also succeeded. The other draws never happened, so you don't have to discard the other two cards. Abandoned and Alone will still hit you, but that beats running out of cards sooner.

Action 1: Move to Ascending Path.
Action 2: Gain 1 resource.
Action 3: Gain 1 resource.
Fast Actions: Activate Arcane Studies, spending 3 resources and gaining +3 to my Intellect test.
Action 4: Activate Ascending Path. Investigate (Intellect 2 + 3[Arcane Studies] = 5 vs. 3 Shroud[Ascending Path]):

That's actually not so bad. We can lose all of the old locations (Eerie Glade, Destroyed Path, and Diverging Path), as we don't need to go back to them. The only Altered location we've found hasn't been revealed yet, so it's unaffected. The Base of the Hill and Ascending Path count as Sentinel Hill, so they're unaffected too. That means neither one of us moves, no clues are lost, and there are no enemies to get pushed to Base of the Hill.

It doesn't say they get shuffled back into the decks, just that they get shuffled with each other. Then I would guess they get put back into play unrevealed, but if there were more than one, we wouldn't know which was which. Also, when they're revealed again, we'd have to face the consequences. You can check on BGG if you're in doubt, but this is how I think it's supposed to work. It looks like we handicapped ourselves earlier when this card came up the first time.

It's a good thing you did save that action, because losing five cards is the last thing you need. With your third action you can play Lockpicks, but you won't be able to investigate until next turn.
