Ouch! Beyond the Veil is nasty! I'd have used Ward of Protection if it (or The Painted World) had been in my hand. At least my deck is the thickest, so it'll take a while to burn through it even with all the effects that discard cards in this scenario. Hopefully it'll be over before that happens, or I'll have to resign if my deck gets dangerously low. That Whipporwill is annoying. I could equip my Knife and try to kill it with Unexpected Courage, but maybe I should just move to the library and search there, then go back the following turn.

OOC:   Good point--next time I draw a treachery Encounter Card for Sefina, and she can cast the Ward spell, I'll wait on what you decide. Yes the 10 damage is fatal, but we've never yet exhausted our decks... And yes I think that Sefina should move to the library.

Wendy to move to Miskatonic Quad, then to Science Building, and probably equip Flashlight.

Darkness blanketed the Quad, furnishing the Science Building with an uninviting aspect, however a lone window shone in the corner of the basement so it didn't seem quite as gloomy. Wendy climbed its steps and entered through the door which had a grand pillar on each side.

She skidded upon viscous ooze, "Uh?" she exclaimed. It trailed down to the basement. She flicked the switch of her flashlight and with its beam followed the ooze's shine, it glistened and was iridescent in a curiously pretty way. Down the steps to the basement, the door to the Alchemy Labs was, again, locked. She knew it was the laboratory because of the pungent stench, and the unmistakeable hiss of a burner.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. With the Flashlight, you'll only fail on tentacles, so you will probably have a third action to return to the Miskatonic Quad after getting both clues. I think you should go first this time. Then on my turn I can move back to the Humanities Building, try to pick the lock (with Unexpected Courage), and then try to find that sixth clue.

Wendy searched and searched, the beam of her flashlight probing underneath chairs, behind desks, etc; she found a broken test tube containing the remnants of a yolk--"Ugh!"--which she was very careful not to touch, and a torn playing card, the nine of diamonds...? She skipped back to the Quad, eager to tell Sefina about her finds but unsure of what they meant.


OOC:   Don't forget that there's still 1 clue at Orne Library.

Edit: the chaos token I've been calling "squid" is in fact "elder thing."

Turn 3 Investigator Phase

When Sefina calms down, Leo escorts her back to the Humanities Building, avoiding the flapping creature that has followed her here. When they arrive, however, the door turns out to have been locked. The building must have closed for the night.

"Allow me," says Sefina, pulling a pin from her hair and inserting it into the lock. It pops open just as easily as if she had used the key. She leads the way inside, shining her flashlight around, and comes across something interesting in Professor Rice's office...

I'd thought of that, but the Whipporwill means I'd be likely to fail, and each try takes two actions. If I killed it first (not a sure thing, and I'd still need a boost), even then I'd only get one try. This way I have an action to spare for another attempt.

Action 1: Move to Humanities Building.
Action 2: Activate Locked Door. Agility test (Agility 4 + 2[Unexpected Courage] = 6 vs. 4[Locked Door]):

That's my plan, unless we're lucky enough to draw Jazz during the Mythos Phase. Those were great draws (though Drawn to the Flame would have been better, allowing me to burn through sixteen cards from the encounter deck on my next turn), and they'll really help us find more clues if my first one doesn't find the janitor. I can go back to Orne Library and use Perception to try to find the other clue there in that case (unless something happens in the Mythos phase to prevent it), and there's also still the Administration Building, which you can reach from the Quad.
