OOC

The scientific world was amazed by reports from the 1931 Miskatonic University expedition into uncharted Antarctica. The entire world was shocked by the tragedy which followed. Now a new larger expedition will brave the mysteries of the icy continent. How credible were Miskatonic University reports of fossilized remains of ancient life forms predating all known terrestrial life? Will your expedition return in glory or tragedy?

Outstanding!

FYI, I don't think I have the 5th Ed rules as far as I can recall. I do have the 6th Ed.

And the boxed rules. Was that 2nd Ed? 1980s edition.

I have 6th Edition too. It's close enough to 5th, and in fact 1st and 2nd are close to it too. It's only 7th that makes major changes.

Yes, I'm using the 5, because it's the one I have, but as I said before, any from 1 to 6 is acceptable to players use.

Excellent!

I'm leaning towards a cartographer unless anyone wants badly to call dibs on that profession.

I’ve got a photographer from a previous campaign. I’m away in Cornwall for half term holiday so can’t post it up until Monday. We could get started before that if you wish.

Oh man, Cornwall for half term sounds so nice. I got as far as Somerset in my youth, the classic Australian backpacker ancestral-crawl-tour. Was too hard to get to Cornwall on a penniless budget but is so on my list. Tintagel, Arthur, pirates, smugglers, my better half could pursue Poldark fantasies interests (not to overshare).

Sounds so lovely as we swelter through Aussie Feb...

(And how long is a half term break?)

Half term is only for this week. I went to an exhibition this morning, held in the old china-clay tunnels under Charleston harbour (freezing cold and decked out in pretend ice.) It was all about Ernest Shakleton’s dramatic expedition to Antarctica, with lots of photos by the expedition photographer, Frank Hurley (who was Australian). It was incredible what they went through and survived.
I’m sure we’ll all do just as well on our expedition. :o

The Shackleton Expedition is something of a fascination of mine. Have books on it. The Kenneth Branagh tv movie was excellent too.

And local Sydney (Glebe) boy Frank Hurley is absolutely heroic. Probably better known here then outside Australia. The classic CoC adventurer-photographer character type. Also a war photographer in the Great War and WWII, retired as a captain.

We can only hope to have as much "fun" as Shackleton and crew. Perhaps "fun" and / or "hope" are the wrong words...

For those I haven't mentioned this to before on other forums here, BBC Radio did this rather cool version of At The Mountains Of Madness a few years back. It's a narration of the book but with added audio effects and music. Worth a listen.

There is a workable set of links at:

Katie's an early riser, so it's possible. She may still be in her own hotel room, though, but she'd be awake.

Macduff will politely grill the minion/s in the lobby, if she's staying at the hotel then he should hopefully find her.
