IC -2 - Yesterday Upon the Stair - Everyone

The Old Barnaker House. Every kid has heard about it. Everybody has a different awful story about it. All of them agree it is a very bad place.

But here you are on Halloween Night, all because of that jerk Roger. He dared you and your friends to spend the night there. You couldn’t let him bully you.You will show him who is chicken! Everybody knows that there are no such things as ghosts. Everybody knows that, right?

So get your slingshot and your pocket knife. Grab some candy and ready your Rubik’s Cube. You and your friends are going to go face-to-face with the horrors of the Barnaker House.

Hopefully you will live to see the dawn.

The Barnaker House is waiting...

She's not Louis's grandmother, she's mine! My Grams...Grams, my Grams. That's not Louis. I'm Louis! I'm Louis Ravensburger.

OOC:   Still managed to lose over half your Sanity in one go! Time for a bit more insanity...

"She's not your granny either," says Harry. "She's mine." He looks over at Louis and does a double take. "How come you look like me? Who are you really?"

Louis looks askance at Harry,
“What? I’m Louis. Just a minute, Grams.” He stops, taking his eyes off the old woman, and walks over to Harry, grabbing his arms.
“Don’t lose it now, Buddy!” He looks hard at Harry and then wildly around at the others, have they lost it too?

"Real funny, Harry," says Harry. "Dressing up in a costume to look like me doesn't make you me, though. I don't know why you'd want to be me in the first place. I'd have thought you'd want to be someone smart, like Albert Einstein or something."

Louis shakes Harry again and calls to Darren,
“Help! Harry’s doing the loop!” He looks hard into Harry’s eyes,
“Look, buddy. I’m not you; I’m 3 sizes bigger than you even after a night of starvation in this hell hole. And, and… I can’t even begin to remember what my Halloween outfit was, but it certainly wasn’t a Harry impersonation.”

"Of course it wasn't," says Harry. "Why would you impersonate yourself? You're dressed up as me."

A Be a Pal roll might be in order here.

In a rumbling voice several octaves lower than you'd expect from your grandmother, she coos, 'Let’s have a look at you sweeeet children…' Suddenly lurching off her her muddy seat she trundles towards you. Her voice sounds all wrong, almost cackling, dripping with malice, she growls 'Come to granny, dearie! Let me give you a great big hug!'

Everyone stops their bickering to see that Kyle has approached the bloated form of your grandmother. 'Granny?' he asks tentatively as the old woman leans forward to embrace him.

OOC:   Everyone gets another chance to roll against an Extreme POW roll again, but this time with a bonus 1d10. Anyone who hasn't passed cannot attack her.

Feel free to roll Be a Pal to help out our not so sane Harry

Harry looks at the old woman, wheels turning in his mind.

POW roll (40 / 5 = 8% stat) to resist:
d%
Bonus die:
1d10
If I spend 7 Luck to make that an extreme success, would I have to make the same Sanity roll as before?

Be a Pal: 10 roll: 3! POW roll: 64 fail.

Louis and Harry never had anything in common; Harry was in all the top grades, Louis the bottom. But still they were friends. Louis looks into Harry’s eyes,
“Harry, remember last Spring when we found that wounded deer in the trap- and together we freed it? Remember how you felt then? You were Harry and I was Louis? And we were a team that kept that deer alive?”
Harry knew he was rambling but he hoped that his voice, the one he used for his rescued animals, and the fond memories might just bring Harry back to normal and back with a bright idea to save them.

Harry puts the fingers of his hands on Louis's temples, closing his eyes. "My mind to your mind..." he says. "My thoughts to your thoughts...I...I understand now." He opens his eyes again. "I'm Harry. You're Louis. Our minds must have melded, and I thought I was you. Repeating the mind-meld set me straight. I understand you better than I ever did, and I'm glad we're friends."

Louis grins at Harry with profound relief,
“Welcome back. Now get us the hell out of here!”
He turns, picks up his bat again, ready to follow Harry’s orders. And then sees Kyle…
He jumps, hoping to push Kyle away from the witch’s grasp.
POW: 65 roll:18 and bonus :2 so 18 is best roll, need 13. And we can’t use luck? Boohoo. Do we need to roll Sanity again?

OOC:   On the second roll no need to roll Sanity again if you pass or fail. I'll post later with the consequences for Shirley. I will let you spend Luck for these POW rolls if you like. If you're sure you want to pass?

I'll spend the 7 Luck to get an extreme success as long as I don't risk losing Sanity again. Please let me know when I can act.
