The Sneck (Everyone)

A brutal murder has taken place in the small Highland village of Strathmorn. The accused claims that the ghosts from a local haunted manor are to blame!

Piqued by the alleged supernatural angle to the case, renowned Psychical Researcher, Harry Price, is seeking a team of responsible persons ‘of leisure and intelligence, intrepid, critical and unbiased’ to investigate the haunting.

Doesn’t that just sound like the sort of thing you’ve been looking for?

“To be honest, I don’t know much more than what I’ve seen in the papers,” replied the concierge as he poured Dr Douglas his drink. “I haven’t been up that way for a few years, probably since I was a bairn.”

“It’s just a wee clachan - a village,” said the concierge, reverting to the time-honoured trope of polishing the glasses behind the bar. “As I said, I havenae been up that way for a few years, so I’ve nae idea who the lad is, sorry.”

The good doctor has absolutely no reason to think that the concierge is telling him anything other than the truth…

Let me know where you’re planning to go in the morning e.g. Inspector Sinclair, up to Strathmorn, etc. and I’ll move us on in the morning.

Spoiler:
I think everyone is happy to conduct investigations in Inverness tomorrow.

"Well, it won't need all of us to speak to the inspector. I might take the opportunity tomorrow to find a good map of the area. And I'll see what else there is to be found in Inverness."

The Station Hotel, Academy Street, Inverness
Thursday 19 March 1931. 9.30am

Father Ó Shaban had arrived with a local lad who he introduced as Hamish, his bodyguard against the toughs and ne’er do wells that he was convinced haunted Scotland. Hamish was solidly built, with a shock of red hair, who carried a beater’s pole.

The party headed out onto the rain-swept streets, some to visit the Police Station, others to see what other information they could find about recent events and the location in which they occurred.

Ok, anyone wanting to explore Inverness should continue in this thread. If you’re going to talk to Inspector Sinclair, go here: https://www.callofcthulhu.org.uk/pbp/vi ... 493&t=7619

Ascot is up early, clean-shaven and having enjoyed the hotel breakfast. Adding a well-worn but serviceable grey trench-coat and fedora to his tweed suit, he wishes the others heading to the police station, "Cheerio then," and heads off.

His first mission is to find something in the range of a detailed ordinance or survey map of the area, one that includes Strathmorn.

Ascot is happy, of course, for anyone not heading for the police station to come with him.

A stroll along the brought Ascot to a bookshop from where he was able to purchase 1 inch:1 mile Ordnance Survey map of the local area.

Happy with his purchase, Ascot tucks the map in a pocket inside his coat and heads off to find the offices of the local newspaper. His intention is to find copies of the paper following on from the murder.

Inverness Public Library, Farraline Park, Inverness

An enquiry at the local newspaper had seen Ascot directed to the Public Library. A librarian sat at the desk looked up as he entered, glancing over his reading glasses. ”Can I help you, sir?” he asked quietly.

Ascot whispers remarkably loudly and with his distinctly colonial African accent. "I certainly hope so, eh. I'm looking for recent editions of the local newspaper that might have articles about that murder in Strathmorn. Or really, anything at all about Strathmorn."
