IC-Cavalry(Everyone else)

The truck stop is in a shambles. Many survivors remain, and the Air Force has arrived to take control, but are they more trouble than they're worth? Other survivors have scattered in various directions. Four have reached Warren Air Force Base, but it may not be as safe as it appears. Others are in the skinheads' compound, fighting desperately for their lives. Still others are in a secret underground facility full of mystery and peril. And a small group winging its way to Omaha in a helicopter must land at an airfield to refuel. The fate of the world may depend on them, but will they survive to reach their destination?

IC-Cavalry(Everyone else)

Z-Day - 10:38 AM Mountain Daylight Time - At the motel
On the motel roof-
Image
The lead helicopter, bristling with weaponry, soared overhead. Samantha watched as it flew past. It circled the area once, then hovered overhead about twenty yards to the east of the motel. A booming voice came from its loudspeakers: "DO NOT APPROACH! STAY WHERE YOU ARE AND LIE DOWN! IF YOU DO NOT LIE DOWN, YOU ARE ASSUMED TO BE INFECTED AND WILL BE FIRED UPON! THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING!"

Behind the motel-
Mitchell, at the northwest corner of the motel, and Jim, at the base of the ladder, could not see the helicopters now with the building in the way, but they could certainly hear the warning over the sounds of the rotors whirring.

In the upstairs motel room, second from northeast corner-
"Guess we better listen," said Ellen, lying down on the floor. Bobby, Scotty, and Jenny did likewise. Max and Buddy lay down on either side of Jenny, their paws covering their ears.

In the upstairs motel room, southeast corner-
Hammond rolled over in his bed, having been awakened out of a sound sleep by the helicopters. "I'm already lying down, ya idjits," he moaned.

In the private room-
"Oh God," muttered Cathy Lathan to her husband Tony. "They're supposed to rescuing us, not threatening us."

Mr. Foo lay unconscious on the floor, his wife beside him.

In the first helicopter-
The nine passengers in the Huey waited as the helicopter prepared to descend. "Everyone stay on the alert!" ordered Captain Lereux, a big man with captain's bars next to a female lieutenant, Elizabeth Malone. "We're going into a hot LZ. That truck stop didn't blow itself up. Sergeant Black! After we land, take Sheen and set up an OP with a field of fire covering both buildings."

Javier Ramirez was one of only two civilians on board. He had been brought along for his expertise in communications, assisting the captain directly. The other was Zorie Spooner, who was the assistant to Lt. Angela Blanco, both of whom wore orange level 4 Racal suits designed to protect them against biohazards. They were needed for their expertise on infectious diseases. Airmen Nathaniel Lewis and Alexandria Mikhalin were communications specialists. The sniper team consisted of Sergeant Sam Black and Airman Bobby Sheen. They were the only ones wearing body armor on this chopper. The rest of the Security Forces were aboard the other one.

In the second helicopter-
"Hell, Sarge!" said one of the soldiers who was carrying a SAW in his muscular arms as he surveyed the area. Columns of flame still rose from where the gas pumps used to be. "This place looks like a war zone!"

"It is a war zone, Hockey!" said another soldier with sergeant's stripes on his sleeves and a nametag that read: McCain. "Don't any of you forget that! Don't let your guard down, not for a second!" He addressed his men. "Corporal Alanen, you and your team will be with me after we land. We're going to secure the motel once the civilians evacuate."

The corporal nodded eagerly, two of his men behind him. "Yes, Sergeant!" he said. "Ready when you are!"

"Good. Corporal Cole, you and your team are going to keep an eye on that place." He pointed at the T-Bone, the front of which had been blown wide open. "If you see suspicious movement, you are to open fire."

"You don't have to tell me twice, Sergeant," said the other corporal, his mouth set in grim determination. "I think we should eliminate them now, just to be safe."

McCain sighed. "That's a bit premature, Corporal. You know the rules of engagement."

"It pays to be vigilant, Dear." Tony Lathan gently chides. "I don't blame them for being extra cautious. We've already seen what can happen in a moment of letting your guard down." He glances down at poor Mr. Foo, then thinks of his now noseless son. Hopefully the doctors can reattach that after we get through this.

As the others kneel down he uses the radio once again. "Hello, Major Andrews? Tony Lathan here. Your men have arrived. I'm gonna have to sign off for a few minutes while we get everything situated here."

As the choppers approached, Jim breathed a deep sigh of relief. It was beginning to look like he might survive this after all. When the warning to lie down sounded, he lay on the ground and knitted his fingers together behind his head. As he waited for the all clear, his thoughts drifted to Sean and he wondered how he was doing.

Mitchell was straining over the railing to try to get a glimpse of the helicopters heading in when he was startled by the warning over the loudspeaker.

"What the hell, you're supposed to save us not shoot us." He shouts as he lies on the floor. He keeps his shotgun at the ready just in case someone else turns before the cavalry actually arrives.

Samantha is so relieved to see the helicopter, she waves at it. But then immediately drops to the floor when instructed.
She keeps the rifle close to hand and tries to watch the choppers progress with her head screwed sideways.

Mrs Foo looks very worried. She shakes her husband’s shoulder and speaks urgently in Mandarin:
Husband, you must wake up- the army is coming! Shall we hide? What should I do?”

10:39 AM
On the motel roof-
As Samantha lay on the roof, there was a sudden rumble and shaking of the ground below, as if a minor earthquake had just occurred.

Behind the motel-
Mitchell and Jim also felt the ground tremble as they lay down.

In the upstairs motel rooms-
The occupants of the rooms could also feel the shaking.

In the private room-
The tremor could be felt in the room as well.

"Understood, Mr. Lathan," replied Major Andrews. "Thank you for everything you've done to help. Please comply with all of the Air Force's instructions promptly."

There was no response from Mr. Foo. He was still unconscious. At least he was already lying down.

In the motel parking lot-
The helicopter gunship hovered over them carefully, like some giant preying insect. A giant dragon fly buzzing overhead and waiting for a threat, its rocket pods and machine guns clear to those below.

The other two helicopters came in low. Those at the motel could see that each had machine gun mounts, but they were transport helicopters carrying personnel. Quickly one released a squad of soldiers who fanned out around the helicopter landing site in groups of three, led by a tall officer. The men took position to engage in all directions.

Then the second helicopter landed disgorging more of what appeared to be soldiers. Two of this group were dressed in bulky orange bio-hazard suits. Others were similarly armed as those from the first helicopter but seemed to carry only side arms. Two carried long rifles with scopes.

They crouched down under the beat of the helicopter blades which forced down the grass near the motel, the blast of which seemed to pound them into the ground. Then both helicopters lifted up higher off the ground and began circling around the truck stop exit.

The machine gunners kept their weapons trained on those at the motel. It was obvious that a mere pull of the trigger and the helicopters would unload a maelstrom of violence against the building and those inside.

One of the men on the ground lifted a loudspeaker to his mouth and shouted: "You in the motel. You are to remove yourself from the motel immediately. You will not be warned again. The motel is being seized by the United States Air Force. Those trespassing are subject to lethal violence. Evacuate now."

The group of soldiers began to move on the hotel as if expecting a hostile engagement.

Black:

Black scanned the area for high ground offering a wide field of fire, ideally a fire-escape leading to a flat roof, or failing that even the roof of a decent sized truck.

"Wha'cha seeing, Sheen? Where's the best high ground?"

Tony had just laid down on the floor when the military barks its orders. He rises to his feet, knowing his knees would be hurting tomorrow.

"Well, guess we better do what he says," He tells the others. "We'll hold our hands up and leave in a non threatening manner." He looks down at Mr. Foo. "I'd suggest we take him with us, but he's pretty beat up and it would probably hurt him to move now. I'll tell them about him when we go out and mention he was helping Major Andrews, hopefully they get someone to give him some treatment." He starts to make his way to the door.

OOC:   Please ignore the roll, was going to drag Mr. Foo out then reconsidered.

“I stay with my husband!” Mrs Foo says sharply. She hides her revolver back inside her shapeless dress and sits defiantly on the floor next to Mr Foo.
“Good luck, Mr Tony, to you and Mrs Tony and troublesome boys!”

“Here comes the cavalry.” Breathes Samantha. She wonders why the helicopter isn’t scanning the waving cornfields; that’s where the last horde of zombies came from. Surely they could see that she was human. Typical military: all bull and no brain.
She isn’t keen to leave the roof as she feels safer here but if that was an earthquake just then, then it probably wasn’t so safe after all.
Staying on her belly, and dragging her guns with her, she slides to the ladder and leaves the roof.

Jim continues to lie on the ground, waiting for the all clear. He's disturbed by the shaking of the ground, wondering what it means.

Lt. Blanco looks down at her feet feeling extreme apprehension for only a brief moment before disembarking. Pulling herself together- "Let's move! Wait for the security team to give the all clear and stay tight on my 6 we're going in!"

Samantha can just hear the shouting over the drone of the helicopter and she shakes her head.
“Here we all are, lying on the floor. I just hope they don’t mistake us for zombies when we all stand up again.”
