Delta Green using NBA

Post by thumbprince »

Based on the other thread, it looks like there might be interest for a Delta Green game using the Dunwich Sanction mod for Night's Black Agents. So here are some more specifics:

-The game is set in 1993 in the (former) Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, so investigators need a cover allowing for extraterritorial activity.
-Characters are constructed using Night's Black Agents rules with the following abilities added: Sanity (4 points free), Cthulhu Mythos (1 point free, no more available at start), Geology. Physics, Theology.
-Characters start with a total of 20 points combined for Network and Cover, with a minimum of 1 point in each. Your starting cover ID is worth 5 free points.
-Drives, Pillars of Sanity & Sources of Stability as described in Trail of Cthulhu are probably a better fit than the NBA options; but for the latter you can have Symbol/Solace/Safety.
-You cannot use Trust with another agent unless you reveal something true about your character to that agent.

Reading up on the Bosnian War, I discovered references to Neo-Nazis from the US and Western Europe fighting on the side of the Croats and others. I was thinking about playing a Mossad agent who was sent to infiltrate these groups and determine their long-term risk of their anti-Semitic creed to Israeli national security. The character could have been burned because he ended up saving the lives of a number of Bosnian Muslim fighters from imminent massacre, only for his superiors to find out they included Hezbollah volunteers.

You might have seen this, but this might come in handy if you haven't: http://elderskull.blogspot.kr/2013/01/a ... -dust.html

The main thing that was holding me back from starting my own NBA game was simply the work I thought I would have to put in to prepare character creation, particularly for people who don't have the game. Maybe it won't be such a big deal though.

As long as someone has one or the other game, it should work. The Pelgrane site has the thriller rules and character sheets available for download, so anyone can see what sort of Abilities are in play.

Thanks, that character sheet is perfect!

I'm up for this. I only played NBA once, and I only tried the GUMSHOE rules one other time (Trail of Cthulhu). Both games were at a convention and had pregenerated characters, so I'm not familiar with how character creation works. I'm thinking of playing an agent whose cover is belonging to Doctors Without Borders, who first arrived in the area in 1993.

Do we want to set up with 2 players? Perhaps more interest will be generated as we go through chargen.

I can set up the board for you if you like. When you're ready, just let me know by posting here and include a text blurb describing the game, like you'll see on the home page for other games here.

Operation Dark Margin: a Delta Green game using the Dunwich Sanction frame for Night's Black Agents.

"If the abyss gazes into you, put a round between its eyes."

1993: The Cold War is newly laid to rest, and someone from the other side of the Curtain is reopening old channels to ask for help. DG personnel with access to Yugoslavia should acknowledge and stand by for briefing.

He's been able to ride his family's good name and connections to a B.A. in German from Williams College, a Miskatonic Law Degree, and a Yale MBA. Now he's gotten a plum assignment in Vienna as Assistant Counselor for Economic Cooperation at the American Embassy. He is loud, quick to laugh, and flirts with and/or flatters anyone he meets, almost as a knee-jerk reaction.

This is from the character thread in the sub-board, you might want to make a few changes.
thumbprince wrote:-Characters are constructed using Night's Black Agents rules with the following abilities added: Sanity (4 points free), Cthulhu Mythos (1 point free, no more available at start; consider starting Sanity accordingly!), Geology. Physics, Theology. Here is a sheet incorporating these changes.

-Use the Drives, Pillars of Sanity & Sources of Stability as described in Trail of Cthulhu. The latter can be a Symbol or Safety in addition to a Solace.
-You cannot use Trust with another agent unless you reveal something true about your character to that agent.

Austin Fenton Phillips Baxter Scrivenor leads a blessed life. Scion of the Baxters of Boston and the Scrivenors of Virginia, he has been able to ride his family's good name and connections to get where he is now, Assistant Counselor for Economic Cooperation at the American Embassy in Vienna.

He has been able to turn his loud and often brash demeanor into an asset, coupling it well with his easy temper and ability to laugh, and the ability to affect the lazy American trust fund lad. He is an avid sailor.

Have to lower Sanity to 9, so feel free to assign that 10th point to a different ability.
