Dunwich Beach - Dunwich, England 2:10 PM - Thursday, September 5, 1985
Story, his companions, Chad, Raymond, Tobias, Elliot, and Valerie made their way to the beach, finding an isolated spot with nobody else around where they could converse freely.
Tobias walks to an area of stones and dry sand and sits down watching the water, "We should look like we're just chilling out here. I'd skim stones but my shoulder's too stiff." He looks around, "The sand's pretty dry, ladies." He doesn't hear anything unusual.
ooc,The tide was coming in earlier, so I'm hoping they can sit on dry sand and still be fairly close to the water.
Those who were paying attention when Lucius was talking knew he was no stranger to speaking secretly and conspiring amongst busy intersections. He would never have said anything that would jeopardize them because he had learned through past experience, every stranger was a possible threat, and so were some of the friendlies. He was obviously relieved they were on the beach, but he didn't let his guard down. In fact, he was a little more alert than while in the tavern.
He said to the others, "Something big and bipedal had managed to drag our transport into the water. A feat none of us would have been able to do on our own. You should be on guard for threats in all directions out here. Don't assume the water does not have ears too."
Elizabeth Young,Elizabeth heard a distant crack far to the south. She was sure it was a gunshot, most likely a pistol.
Lucius Verres,Facing the water, Lucius heard a distant crack far to the right. It sounded a little like one of those strange weapons they used in these times, a gun.
Brook Davies/Elliot Webb,Brook and Elliot heard a distant crack far to the south. Could it have been a gunshot?
Brook was about to go sit down on the sand, when suddenly she hears something in the distance, and looks around to see where it might be coming from. "Was that a gun shot?" she asks, frowning.
Story listens to what Lucius shares with the others as he gazes out into the water. Upon hearing Brook say something of a gunshot he looks at her and says, "What did you say? A gunshot?" He turns and does a quick head count of all present before looking back in the direction they just came from. "Hmmm."
Lucius nodded, "I heard it too. That way," he pointed off down the shoreline. "Do we have protection?" Lucius' hand went to his pocket, where the strange plutonian weapon remained. He wished he knew how to operate it... but it had proven to be beyond his capabilities. Story didn't seem quite so interested in even attempting to figure it out. But maybe these newcomers... just maybe.
Tobias gets back to his feet. "No, no protection - not anymore. Wish I did." He says glumly, thinking back to the helicopter crash and his beloved glock that he'd lost. "Could be duck shooting. By the way, we found some strange prints next to marks in the sand - could have been something dragged into the water - was it yours? The prints were very odd like someone walking in flippers." He looks down the beach towards the sound to see if he can see anything useful.
ooc,I know they're called fins but in the 80s I think people called them flippers, even Cousteau. Oh, and what a roll.
Chad also heard the gunshot, coming from the south.
Tobias focused his vision in the direction indicated and saw everything in crystal clarity.
Tobias Maddox,Far to the south, Tobias could see that the beach got narrower until it ended at the base of cliffs that rose above it, not far past a large shack with several boats outside of it. There was another small boat in the water past that point, near the base of the cliff, but that boat was upside-down...and there was blood on the water! He could probably make out more details if he got closer, but that was all he could tell from here without binoculars or something similar.
OOC,The tide has actually started going out since the last time you were on the beach.
"Oops." Says Tobias. He points south down the beach towards a boathouse of sorts. "Something bad's happened; there's a boat overturned in the water down there and I can see the waves looking rather too red in colour." He looks at his team mates and mouths 'Salem and Leonek?' We'd better get down there but careful; we don't know who fired the gun.'
Most of the group began to run down the beach to the south, though Valerie Soames could only hobble slowly.
OOC,Everyone but Tobias (who has already rolled) may roll Spot Hidden.
Tobias Maddox,Tobias saw Leonek surface next to the overturned boat, his arm around a very bedraggled Salem. Salem clung to a handhold on the side of the boat.
As they get closer Tobias says, "It Is them! Looks like Salem is wounded. Can you help Leonek pull him out?" He points to where two people are floundering in the water beside an upturned boat just off shore.
"Where?!" Brook makes a few jumps to see where the people are. When the men are pointed out, she heads for the water, not really sure what she can do, but intent on trying nevertheless.
Elliot can't see whats going on, but going by the concern of the others, heads as quick as he can towards the beach. Elliot is too worried about his 'Aunt' to see muchelse.
Brook Davies,Far to the south, Brook could see that the beach got narrower until it ended at the base of cliffs that rose above it, not far past a large shack with several boats outside of it. OOC,Nobody who failed their Spot Hidden rolls can see the boat or the people yet at this distance, and it will take you some time before you get close enough.

Chad rushes along with the others in the direction of the gunshot. Thinking to himself. "My inquiry of our new 'friends' isn't over, but whatever that was we need to find out what happened". He sees nothing in the direction of the gunshot but continues to run in that direction. Hearing Tobias, he reflects, Chad doesn't know what he might face so he readies his Luger* pistol. "Yes Tobias I've got my old Luger. I'll be ready. Be ready to help whoever might be hurt"
OOC,A Luger? Instead of a Browning? I'll just assume it's a WWII war trophy my dad brought back.
Tobias lifts his arms and waves them, trying not to stumble in the sand. He reckons there is no need to maintain any element of surprise, not with the crowd of them obviously racing down the beach, so he shouts, "Hold on Salem, we're coming!" He says to his companions, "Hurry! they look like they are struggling. Who can go in to help them? I'll try but I won't be much good on my own."
"I see him!" Brook calls out to the others, and points towards a man waving in the water. She looks to Tobias when he asks for help going in, nods a little, and splashes into the surf when they get close enough. "I'm no Olympic swimmer, though!"
Brook Davies/Tobias Maddox,Leonek and Salem managed to flip the boat upright.
OOC,Leonek and Salem are quite some distance to the south, beyond the end of the beach. Right now only Brook and Tobias can even see them. Entering the water at this point will only make your progress slower. You're better off staying on land until you get to the point where the beach ends.
Tobias keeps watch on the boat as he runs, "It looks like they've righted the boat but we should still hurry; whoever is wounded has lost a lot of blood. If we run next to the water the sand is a little firmer."
The group ran along the edge of the beach, and soon they were about halfway to the large shack and close enough to see Leonek and Salem, who climbed into their boat. Leonek was clad only his boxer shorts, but Salem was fully clothed - and those clothes were soaking wet. He was clearly in bad shape, but he didn't appear to be bleeding.
