Re: Norbury At Night
"Could be," says Irene, marking the wall. "Shall we look through those other strips before we venture upstairs?"

Re: Norbury At Night
"Sounds like a good plan to me," says Florence, "Well as good as anything here does", she grins ruefully.
Re: Norbury At Night
John is very keen to get into the fresh air but, "Upstairs doesn't sound too healthy; those bombs are still dropping. We might as well stay down until the All-Clear."

I second you mate.aine wrote:John is very keen to get into the fresh air but, "Upstairs doesn't sound too healthy; those bombs are still dropping. We might as well stay down until the All-Clear."
Doug replies and shines his lamp to the other entrance, showing the way to a person with a gun to advance forward.

Re: Norbury At Night
"Would we even hear the All Clear down here?" Irene says. "I don't know how far down we are. It might have already sounded and we wouldn't know."

"Those bombs are still dropping Miss." John nods to Doug, "Let's keep moving."
Re: Norbury At Night
"Right," says Irene, heading over to the door with the strips. "Even more reason to finish exploring down here first."

Re: Norbury At Night
"We need to check whatever is through there anyway," says Florence, following Irene, "so we might as well get on with it." She shakes her shoulders to try to give herself courage, internally dreading what is in the next chamber.

Re: Norbury At Night
The next chamber is a square room that has a barred wall with a little locked gate (about half the height of a man) set in the middle. Twelve women and three men stand about in that room, stock still, staring distantly wherever their faces are pointed. A few of them appear to be fresh amputees judging by the blood stained bandaging about their missing limbs. One seems to have recently lost an eye. They all seem freshly washed, shaven, and are quite naked.
Is it bad that I listen to this about ten times a day?

"Oh, Good Lord!" says Irene, instinctively averting her gaze, but it's too late to avoid seeing them. "We could give them those aprons in the other room, but there aren't enough for all of them. We've got to get these people out of there!"

Re: Norbury At Night
"Yes we need to get them out," says Florence. She approaches the nearest of the people in the room. "Hello I am a nurse. Can you hear me? Can you tell me your name?"
Re: Norbury At Night
Oh…god, what the fuck is going on over here ?!
Doug calls out angrily as he enters the room, the former gang man is quite troubled from what he sees and is very keen to punch someone badly, especially the one responsible for what is going on over here.

Re: Norbury At Night
John takes one look at the people and looks away, aghast. He sees the gate and acts immediately on Irene's command. "Here lad, point that lamp here." He gruffly directs Doug to the gate and, dropping his tool bag, investigates the lock and the hinges.
Re: Norbury At Night
Upon seeing the pitiful examples of humanity behind the wall, William recoils at first, recovers, then heads over to stand behind John. As he tries to make eye contact with any of the prisoners within the cell, he occasionally glances down to watch as John works on the lock. "If you find it difficult," he suggests, "I may be able to help."

Locksmith (1d100=72) - Fail
Oh man ... let me try the lock ... we do need to set them free.
Doug takes out his switchblade and place in into the lock but the lock is too hard to pick for him.
He put the blade away and says
No luck, we must find a key.

Re: Norbury At Night
The pitiful individuals continue to stand there, unresponsive, though the slight movements of human bodies maintaining the upright position can be seen in the slight tilt of the hips and tensing of the legs.

"Here, let me have a go," says Irene. She joins John and helps him with the tools, and she shortly is able to make progress.

Re: Norbury At Night
Rather embarrassed at having been out-meched by a nurse, John has a quick look at the figures. "How is it that they are standing up and yet don't seem conscious of their surroundings? You'd have thought they'd be lying or sitting down. Did anyone see any blankets on the way here? It's a long way back to the bomb shelter for something to put round them."

Re: Norbury At Night
"They could be in shock, I suppose," says Florence. "Although for all of them to be reacting in the same way to even that seems strange. And no I didn't see any blankets."
Re: Norbury At Night
"Perhaps they've been drugged," William suggests, "They have the look of some soldiers I've seen under a morphine haze." He limps into the cell, approaching a male and says, "How long have you been here? Who did this to you?"
