Epologue: Legacy

Postby Mr Zombie killer » Wed Jan 28, 2009 2:52 am

After some hours in the trucks, the trucks pulled into a dank, dark warehouse. The SS soldiers got out and carefully took the boxes from the trucks while other SS soldiers led the men down a hallway into a central room. In that room there was a simple table with 4 chairs around it. One of the chairs was occupied by a senior SS men who seemed to be reading a tome that looked like some of the others that had been found by the group.

"Ahh how is it going mein herrs and fruleoun? Did you have a good weekend working for the NSDAP? You see that treasure we had you look for was only one of a massive amount of books left by a occulitst years ago. Those books you found will be interesting studying of course and I am sure that they will help us counqur the world. Now do you have any questions for me?"

"How much did you know about the dangers we would face when you sent us in?" asks Howard. "There were all sorts of deadly traps and bizarre creatures protecting this treasure, and several people lost their lives trying to retrieve it."

"That's odd; I seem to recall that most of the casualties were German soldiers," says Howard. "Even the much-vaunted SS lost ten or so men to that giant spider."

So we have reached the end my friends. The SS guides the group to individual cells for interrigation but then lets them out with a share of the treasure. I ask you all to do one final post and tell me what you think your character's fate was for the rest of his life. I thank you for playing and I ask you to consider my next game In Search of the Mythos. You are all welcome to come and play. Thanks for the fun.

Howard Campbell returned to England with a better awareness of the threat Nazi Germany posed to the world. He became an early supporter of Sir Winston Churchill and wrote letters to newspaper editors calling for British intervention in the Spanish Civil War on the Republic's behalf, to no avail. When Chamberlain was saying "peace in our time," Howard knew that war was brewing. When it finally came in September 1939, he was reinstated in the RAF at his previous rank of Major. At first he just trained the younger generation of pilots, but the dire need for skilled pilots put him in the cockpit of a Spitfire defending his country in late 1940 during the Battle of Britain. He served with distinction throughout the war, participating in many missions in various theaters. During this time he got enough confirmed kills to become an ace, and by the end of the war he had been promoted to full Colonel. In 1946, he retired from active service and enjoyed his twilight years in peace.

Frustrated with his inability to carry out his plans and Himmler's hostility towards him, Fischer agonized about his future. He knew that during the itme he spent at the manor, he was close to something more powerful than anything he had ever dealt with. He had been hoping to go out in blaze of glory, tricking most of the foreigners into standing next to him while he pulled the pins on concealed grenades so that the treasure could be split between only Yelena, who would save the Jewish family he treasured, and Jager, who would use it for the nation he so loved.

The only thing that still interested him was the remarkable armor of that spider. If it was light enough for an animal to move around under but strong enough to shed machine fire, then it must have been a chemical miracle. Synthesis in the laboratory could provide a truly practical form of body armor for German infantry, making them as unstoppable as armored Teutonic knights of bygone eras and doing away with trench warfare forever. He knew he didn't have the skills or resources to either capture a spider or analyze one's shell, but he decided that if he continued to pursue his SS career, he might one day find himself in a position to launch such a project, or at least convince someone who could.

With his record of dutiful service, fanatical support for the Nazi ideals, and a few planned public criticisms of inferior races, Georg managed to convince his superiors that marrying a Jew had been a youthful indiscretion of which he had repented deeply, and begged to continue his atonement by carrying on the battle. In his ensuing career, his ideas about capturing one of the great spiders would grow to an obsession.

While much of the recovered papers were destroyed, SS Oberscharführer Wilhelm Jäger could at least offer the SS the book used to set the events in motion. Jäger was promoted and assigned a post far away from any political figures or high ranking officers. He never took advantage of the wealth he had gathered, and never saw Himmler again.
He later took part in the invasion of Belgium and France, before being shipped off to fight on the eastern front after slugging a pompous and sadistic superior officer. During an offensive in support of Operation Barbarossa in Russia, Jäger's section was ambushed by partizans in an insignificant skirmish. He died under a hail of lead as he rallied his men after their commanding officer fell.

That would be cool. Maybe Lt. Colonel Howard Campbell could be the one to fly the team to its destination? He does already know a bit about this sort of thing.

That's kind of what I was thinking when I wrote the post - Georg definitely has some future in the Mythos. Right now I'm trying to experience as many different kinds and Keepers of play-by-post as possible, with an eye towards gaining the experience to do it myself, so I don't think I could make the time commitment to become a player in "In Search of the Mythos", but I would be glad to make a guest appearance for a while.
