IC-Ep 5-Caves of Terror(Leonek Novak/Carla Ecarg)

Carla slithered forward. Behind her, the man with the flamethrower carefully began to descend the stairway, and the rest of the squad gathered at the top. She moved into the wide, round chamber. Stalagmites rose from the floor, and stalactites descended from the ceiling. As she made her way towards the sound, she caught sight of the creatures crouched behind the stalagmites. There were three of them, taller than her, each wearing a string mesh vest and carrying a sharp spear and a weighted net. They were roughly humanoid, but they were covered in scales, had claws instead of hands, and their heads looked like fish or frogs. They had not seen her as yet.

OOC,[b]Carla[/b], please roll Sanity. Sanity loss is 0/1d6, so you lose no Sanity if you pass, but you lose 1d6 Sanity if you fail. If you lose 5 or more Sanity, you must roll Idea. If you fail this roll, you may act freely. However, if you pass the Idea roll, you will go temporarily insane.

Sergeant Ecarg keeps an eye on them while she waits for her squad to arrive. If they seem to begin to move away, she throws a rock towards them

The soldier with the flamethrower made his way down the stairs, loud enough for Carla to hear him. One of the creatures nudged the other two and motioned with its spear at the tunnel leading up to the stairway. They peered at it, but they did not appear to see him. He slipped into the cavern and caught a glimpse of them. Fortunately, he kept it together.

Leonek was next down the stairs, followed by three soldiers from the squad. Two more remained in the ruins outside the secret entrance as ordered.

OOC,[b]Leonek[/b], please roll Sneak, Hide, and Spot Hidden. If you pass the Spot HIdden roll, you see the creatures and must make a Sanity roll. You've already lost 5 Sanity for seeing one before, so Sanity loss is only 0/1 for you.

If Carla can get a bead on her flamer man, she uses hand signs to order him to clear out the vicinity with holy immolation to shame Satan napalm and fire while she covered him.
Otherwise she uses this opportunity to blast the nearest one into hell with her armour piercing shotgun flak.

Leonek disappeared as he entered the chamber, though he was not quiet enough. He was able to see the creatures, which did not help his battered psyche.

Just as he entered, Carla shot one of the Sea Devils in the back, the muzzle flash briefly lighting them up. It toppled forward, bleeding to death, the armor piercing shell having punched through its thick scales. Then the man with the flamethrower opened up on one of the other two, turning night to day with a gout of flame that engulfed one of them! It screamed in agony as the fire covered it from head to foot, until it too collapsed.

The remaining Sea Devil fled in panic down the tunnel to the right, screaming "Release Rover!" It vanished around a corner to the right, from which the orange glow came, before anyone could draw a bead on it. The other three UNIT soldiers spilled into the room behind Leonek.

OOC,[b]Leonek[/b]'s player hasn't posted in some time but has logged on today. To keep things moving, I've rolled for him in this case.

"Huh, English. Implications unpleasant. Let's go." Ecarg continues at a hurried pace, reloading with a new armour piercing shell.

OOC,Which way are you going? Other than the way by which you entered, there are three exits: a downward sloping tunnel ahead, a level tunnel to the left, and another level tunnel to the right. The one to the right has an orange glow coming from it, and the third Sea Devil fled that way.

Carla raced down the tunnel to the right, followed by Leonek and her squad (other than the two soldiers who had been left at the entrance). When the six of them rounded the corner, they saw a vast torchlit chamber ahead. Thick pillars stretched from floor to ceiling in two columns, extending back a hundred feet. Burning torches were in sconces on them. In the middle of the room was a huge disk-shaped stone, easily twenty feet across. It had intricate carvings and inscriptions on it that couldn't be made out from here - and it was moving, sliding to the side between two of the pillars. As it moved, it revealed the blackest of pits beneath. It was impossible to see what was in it without getting closer. The fleeing Sea Devil was only about twenty feet ahead of them, hurrying towards the rear of the chamber. At the back, in the middle of the room, was a large stone throne. Atop it sat another of the creatures. This one appeared to be wounded, and it had one claw wrapped around a lever jutting out of the ground next to the throne. To one side stood another Sea Devil, this one female. She did not bear a spear and net like the others. Instead, she had gray globs of some sort of goo covering her claws.

Leonek charges up behind Carla, paying little heed to stealth. He clutches his rifle, making sure it is on burst and lifts it to his shoulder to target the creature holding the lever. Ready to shoot should it make any untowards movement.

OOC,That's perfectly understandable. In my opinion, you can take as much time you need to feel comfortable with playing a game based around death, pretty much.

Seeing Leonek charge head first, Carla takes only a moment to close her eyes in frustration before issuing a new order, "Charge and kill! The one with the lever first!"

The nearest Sea Devil was too busy fleeing in terror to notice them, and the one on the throne did not either, but the female turned to the entrance and looked directly at Leonek and the soldier with the flamethrower. "There are the intruders!" she shouted, pointing at them with a glob-covered claw. Then the UNIT troops opened fire.

OOC,I'm sorry to hear that. I agree, take whatever time you need. [b]Carla[/b], that's a hit. At this range, you may hit multiple targets with the shotgun due to spread. Please roll 1d6 to see how many targets you can hit (though there are only two grouped close together, including the one with the lever). If you roll a 1, you only hit the one with the lever. If you roll two or more, you hit the female Sea Devil as well. However, since this is a long range shot, only roll 1d6 damage for each one you hit. [b]Leonek[/b], if you fire, please roll Rifle. You may fire a burst if you wish. If you do, decide how many bullets you're firing (up to 20). If you only fire at one target, for each bullet in the burst your effective skill increases by +5 up to a maximum of double your skill. If you hit, roll 1dX to see how many bullets hit, where X is the number of bullets you fired. Each bullet does 2d8 damage. If you get an impale, only the first bullet does 4d8 damage, and each additional bullet does 2d8. You may instead fire at multiple targets (there are three visible). In this case, you must decide how bullets are directed towards each target, and you may fire a total of at most 20 bullets. You only have the normal chance to hit each one, and you roll Rifle for each target separately. For each one you hit, roll randomly as above to see how many bullets hit that target, and then roll damage for each bullet as above.
