With the frozen ground, it took some time before they were satisfied that the pilot was decently buried. The fact that there was just one shovel made it worse, as there was much standing around, waiting for a turn. They could feel the cold leaching into their bones and they were glad when they could move on again.

Mindful of their earlier missteps, they took care not to lose sight of the pipeline. Doing so, navigation was relatively easy, although progress was slow and their pace was slowing. The wind continued to drive towards them, buffeting them as they trudged onwards. It was difficult to tell how far they had to walk, and how long it would take them to get there.

"Keep walking, cof cof, god dammit. I hate this place, and if we dont get somewhere because one of you doesnt move qui-cof... Quick enough, I beat..."

The leader tried to be a though motivator, but coughing and lack of breath was limiting that intention.

Boyd is freezing and feeling he lost a lot of energy with the digging.

"I don't know how far we are from the pumping station but we don't want to be putting up tents in the dark. In fact, we don't want to be doing anything in the dark seeing as we have no flashlights. Trekking after dark here is a recipe for death."

"And keep an eye out for any wood that has been kept dry because it's been sheltered somehow. If we see some along the way, we should carry it with us."

" I agree, we should maybe give it another hour then hunker down. We could all do with some rest, by WE i mean all of YOU becuse all I've done is be fucking useless pulled through snow by Rudolph here!" Gavin says in frustration.

Benjamin nods. "We should set up the tents in the shelter of the pipeline shortly before it gets dark," he says. "We don't want to waste any daylight. We need to make as much progress as we can, so we only spend one more night out here before we reach the pumping station and not two. I'll keep my eyes open."

It’s approaching 3pm. You probably have a couple of hours of daylight at most, although the weather is also a factor, as the wind shows no sign of abating.

[Snapper]

"So, two hours of daylight left. Walk for an hour and a half, then spend the last half hour putting up tents. And hopefully we find some dry wood along the way. What do we think?"
