The Zero Room - OOC Chat Thread

1517, Auvergne, France: The Duc d'Auvergne is hosting an elaborate gathering culminating in a masquerade ball in his palace in Vyones, to which he has invited quite a few notable people. Travelers from throughout Europe and North Africa are in attendance to see and be seen. But there are some strange unseen things lurking behind the scenes that may put everyone in danger. Can Story, Elizabeth, Brook, and others attending the party unravel the mysteries and prevent madness from reigning supreme?

This is Classic Doctor Who meets Call of Cthulhu, the sixth of a series of connected adventures set in different eras and locations that includes The Terror Out of Time, The Ninth Planet, The Shadow Over Dunwich, The Brotherhood of Death, and The Horror in the Blackout.

Yeah, I've been a fan since the early eighties. I also have the text adventure on my Apple IIc, which I bought when it was new and really enjoyed. I actually (eventually) managed to complete it without getting any hints from outside the game. Getting the babel fish was fiendish, but I managed to do it. Once that was solved, the rest of it was easy by comparison.

I'm with you. I owned the original BBC radio series on LP record. God I wish I kept that as a collectable. But based on my enjoyment of the audio, I bought the paperback which is still in my bookshelf, 40 years later.

Aine, love that image!! I bet you were very fetching in an Arthur Dent dressing gown.

(Just recently spied Dent, Arthur Dent's Simon Jones as the butler in The Gilded Age, BTW.)

I see Simon Jones has been in a lot of big films over the years; he’s a hero!
I’m wading through Dirk Gently at the mo and should really go through HH again; probably a different experience after 30 odd years.

It's been too long since I've read them too. I haven't read any of them since I read the sixth(!) book in the Hitchhiker's trilogy, which was shortly after it was released, and that one wasn't even written by Douglas Adams. I did watch the Dirk Gently TV series, and I also have the Hitchhiker's TV series on Blu-ray (which also includes audio of the original radio show, I believe).

Sorry again for not keeping up with speed of play. Work schedule has been brutal but if my character holds you guys up feel free to have him do a default action, otherwise would love to keep playing.

That's not a problem, and I understand completely. You can post when you have time, and the rest of the time Jean Luc will just sit and listen. This part of the scenario is an opportunity to meet and converse with other characters, but not posting won't slow anyone down.

Hi folks,
Alas I’ve reached a point where I can no longer devote the time and mental energy these excellent PbP games deserve, so I’m pulling out.

Thanks very much for the thrills and spills you’ve given me over the last few years (and apologies for cross-posting the same message over the forum!)

I may lurk on and off to see how my fellow investigators are faring, but for now, keep rolling well and hold on to your sanity!

Cheers,
JP

I'm sorry to see you go, but I understand completely. I'll look for a replacement player for Brook.

Thanks and sorry to see you go JP! I totally understand. Hopefully my last post is acceptable I know it's going back a bit as Jean Luc laughed at something after other dialog had been posted.

If it helps, Jacques is a closet fan of the Vikings tv series...

So am I, and Ragnar Lodbrok was awesome! Unfortunately for Jacques, he couldn't have watched it, as he's not a time traveler...at least not yet. ;)

Having a mental blank. Does Jacques know anything about any dubious history of this region? Have I already asked that question and now forgotten the answer due to my falling wits?

If you have, I've forgotten it too, but I don't think you asked before. You can go ahead and roll Own Kingdom, and so can the other characters from 1517. The TARDIS crew may roll History.
