'Oh he knows well enough my son' mutters Alex grimly.

Crowley:

"All good," says Crowley, clearly curious and keen to get on. "We can pray and walk at the same time." He nods polite thanks at the locals, with many a "Gracias," and rises.

You start making the walk in the jungle. There isn't what you could call a path, but with instructions the chief give you, you think you are in the right direction.
When you are starting to doubt... you arrive at the empty zone suddenly. You can see remains of burned trees and the black ground. To the veterans, this remind them France. In the middle of the area, some fallen stones and what must be the hole you saw from the air.

“I’m not an expert on explosions but would any of you know if that burnt area is generalised from the earlier fighting or whether it came from out of the hole.”
Now that Jan is near the hole, all her trepidation returns.

[Mr. Handy]

"Crowley's the expert on explosives," says Harry. "We can lower a light on a rope to get a look down there, and we can drop a pebble down to check how for it is to the bottom."

"This is modern warfare at its finest." Butch growls as he comes upon the clearing. He will look around the ground to make sure there are no mines or live ordnance as he heads to the fallen stones.

Crowley:

"Crowley's the expert on explosives," says Harry. "We can lower a light on a rope to get a look down there, and we can drop a pebble down to check how for it is to the bottom."

"You flatter me sir," Crowley says entirely straight-faced. "But I do pride myself on having some recently acquired insight into the destructive power of explosives."

Crowley hobbles about the blast sight looking for bits of explosive device that might give a clue to what caused the destruction. He looks across at Butch. "You're out of date, old boy. Modern warfare at its finest is entirely airborne."

OOC: You can roll demolitions, I think it is the most apropriate.

June will hang back until those looking for mines or bombs are confident there aren't any.

Crowley:

Well, besides being a place that was bombed, you don't get much more information. It was a while (luckily) since you last saw a place like this.

Crowley:

Unable to control his curiosity, Crowley limps over to the hole and shines a flashlight down it, without entering.

Jan waits with June and watches the experts poke around the blast area whilst sucking their teeth. Once it seems safe enough she walks carefully over to meet them at the hole.

[Mephistophilis]

Alex peers over the edge, 'Where do you suppose it goes? To the depths of hell itself?'

OOC:   At the risk of looking like I'm not following things, this hole is different to the one with the steps we nearly climbed down earlier?

With the flashligths you are able to see the stairs in a conical helix, but you cannot see the ending...

"Let's try tying a rope to a lit flashlight and lowering it down the hole," suggests Harry.

Jan pulls out her flashlight, ties it to some rope and starts lowering it over the edge.
“You lot can stick your necks out and see what’s down there. Just don’t blind yourselves in the reflected glare from all the gold.”

June looks down the pit.

Crowley:
