IC-Junkyard Dog(Dave/Mitchell/Max/Buddy/Jim/Wallace)

The dead have begun to rise, but they are not the only problem. A small group of survivors at a truck stop in southwestern Nebraska must contend not only with zombies, but with internal division, a nearby group of heavily-armed skinhead survivalists, and even more horrifying dangers. Can they overcome their differences and survive, or will they join the ranks of the living dead?

IC-Junkyard Dog(Dave/Mitchell/Max/Buddy/Jim/Wallace)

Post by Mr. Handy »

Z-Day - 8:50 AM Mountain Daylight Time - At the T-Bone
In the junkyard-
Wallace and Mitchell were walking through the junkyard, looking for old Mack Trucks for the parts needed to repair Wallace’s rig. The junkyard was full of derelict cars and trucks, buses and other vehicles that had collected over the past few decades. It was the elephant graveyard of lost cars.

Wallace was visibly upset about the delays in repairing the truck. “Your boss,” he grumbled to Mitchell, “is a real piece of s***. He thinks he’s got me by my cojones, and he tells me if we can’t find the part in the yard, he’s got to ship the parts over from California. Bulls***. He’s going to get the part from Cheyenne. What kind of fool does he take me for? Meanwhile I have to wait in this place and wait, and it's costing me money.”

This was nothing Mitchell hadn’t heard before. Boss Earl was a stingy and mean-spirited bastard. For the past few months Mitchell had seen Earl fleece stranded motorists, overcharging for repairs that would be a fraction of the cost in nearby Sidney. Mitchell was also aware that Earl was overcharging Wallace for the part and sympathized with the Indian truck driver.

Wallace paused and looked down. “Hey check it out. Someone has been through here recently. Wearing Nike sneakers too, but those sneakers are pretty worn. I would say the person is about average height, light, a young guy.”

Buddy, the German Shepherd, was not in sight nor had the dog barked. Mitchell was also aware that there had been a runaway hiding out in the junkyard, and he had secretly sneaked some food out to him.

In the wrecked bus-
Jim the runaway was hiding in the old wrecked bus in the junkyard.

Mitchell follows Wallace's gaze and looks at the ground before replying. "Sometimes we get kids running around back here. That's why we have a junkyard dog."

Wallace scans the junkyard, and says, "Well s***, maybe this kid knows where to find some half decent parts. Probably smarter than your boss."

In the junkyard-
In the eastern part of the junkyard, there were the remains of an ancient truck - just the tractor, the trailer was absent. Peering underneath, Mitchell managed to see the part they needed. It was fairly delicate, and it wasn't in the best of shape to begin with for that matter. It would take some time and effort to remove it safely.

Mitchell also caught sight of Buddy. The dog barked suddenly and began racing off toward the northwest corner of the junkyard.
Mitchell,Mitchell also spotted that kid hiding in a wrecked bus nearby.
OOC,Mitchell, please roll Mechanical Repair if you wish to begin removing the part, which will take some time. Wallace, you may roll as well if you wish to help. The base skill for Mechanical Repair is 20%. If both of you succeed, that will speed up the process. As long as at least one of you succeeds, you'll begin making progress. Regular failures won't damage the part, but critical failures could. Buddy's Track by Scent roll (85% skill): [dice]0[/dice] Jim, please roll Listen.

"Hey! I think I found the part you're looking for." Mitchell shouts. "It's going to take some work to get it out though."
OOC,Mechanical Repair 75 [dice]0[/dice] Nice. Extreme Success! Edit: Actually need to do my math better. 1/5 is 15. Doh!

OOC,That's still a very good roll, and thus will speed things up, though not quite as much as an exceptional success. It will take you a total of three minutes (including this one) working by yourself. If Wallace helps and succeeds at his roll, it will only take two minutes (or one if he gets a critical success).

In the junkyard-
Wallace wasn't really able to help Mitchell, but fortunately the young mechanic seemed to have things well in hand. He'd have the part out in a couple of minutes.

Buddy began digging at the ground under an old Chevy truck.

Mitchell waves Wallace off. "I got this. Why don't you go over to see what Buddy is digging up?" Mitchell says to distract Wallace from getting in his way.

In the junkyard-
Mitchell continued to work. In another minute, he'd have the part free and intact. Wallace watched Buddy, now that Mitchell had pointed him out to him. The dog was digging at the ground under an old Chevy truck.

In the wrecked bus-
Jim noticed Buddy digging from where he was hiding and was curious to what the dog found so interesting. Although he was feeling hungry, that could wait a bit.

In the junkyard-
Mitchell finally extracted the part and emerged from underneath the truck.

Jim watched from his hiding place as Wallace reached where Buddy was digging. The German Shepherd gave a long whine as it took a break from pawing at the ground beneath the wrecked Chevy. The dog had found something. Buddy’s tail had been wagging with excitement, but now the tail was tucked underneath the dog’s body.

"Got it." Mitchell says as he emerges from under the old truck. He walks over to where Wallace and Buddy are.

"What's wrong Buddy? Mitchell says as Buddy whines and tucks his tail between his legs.

In the junkyard-
Buddy whined and stopped digging, then cocked an ear at what was under the Chevy. He took a big sniff and then started growling menacingly, as if whatever was under the car was not exactly friendly.
