"Do you get many visitors?" asks Aethelwulf. "Any other new arrivals lately?"

"And you didn't say if anyone has gone missing from around here lately." Garpur adds.

Re: 915 AD - The Civitas
Valbrand takes note of the innkeeper's supplies, but otherwise listens quietly for now.
OOC: Would it be common for the Innkeep of a village like this to have the sort of stockpile of weapons and goods you described? |
Re: 915 AD - The Civitas
Sorry you all ask me questions have there been disappearances, yes over the years I am sure a few, children wander off and get lost wives run from husbands and famillys run from their lord, but these are not unusual. I'm sure the locals would say it was werewolves or vampires or demon's but most times it is simply people being people. We get visitors but not many people like your friends the trappers, there are woodsmen who come here to get supplies and the like. says Burgholf with a shrug. If we the settlement was closer to the river or we could open a trading post there is would be better.
OOC: @Cotton - His goods are certainly not run of the mill, but the implication is that he reports to the lord in some capacity which would explain the weapons and horse gear for which there is clearly a market (normally you'd just talk to the local smith). |

"What do you know about the raiders?" asks Aethelwulf. "Where do they come from?"

Re: 915 AD - The Civitas
Everywhere says Burgholf with a shrug.
OOC: Considering, the state of what will eventually be known as Russia at the moment, the reality is that everyone raids everyone. They could be Khazars from the South, Slavs from the West, Pechenegs from the South or East, Volga Bulgars, Bashkiree or any number of other tribes. The thing is its early in the year not really the raiding season, so probably someone relatively local. The Lord Brant did say who he thought it was. |

“That’s a shame. It’s not exactly a specific piece of information.”Gandalf sighed, remaining in the background.

Re: 915 AD - The Civitas
"Do any of the raiders around here worship any gods that require human sacrifices? Garpur adds. "I know we seem to have a lot of questions but our friends are dead under rather horrific circumstances and the sooner we figure out what happened, the sooner we can rejoin our trading ship."

Re: 915 AD - The Civitas
You mean like you Norsemen do at Uppsala? Is it not true that every 9 years to ensure the goodwill of your gods. 9 males of all kinds of living creatures are killed and hung from the trees in the sacred grove there? I would say many of you pagans still offer the lives of others up to their gods. says Burgholf I do not believe any take the heads as trophies though
OOC: I'm taking the liberty of assuming that you discussed with him the circumstances under which you found yourself in the village/town, including the deaths. Also Clearly the sacrifices at Uppsala are just that men are strangled and may be willing sacrifices, there was little to imply ritual about the bodies you saw in the woods. |
Re: 915 AD - The Civitas
"The only reason I can think of for them to take men's heads would be to prove they killed them," says Aethelwulf. "I can't imagine why they'd need to do that, though. Who would offer a bounty for those men?"

As you stand there Brun wanders up brushes her long blond hair away from her face and smoothes down her dress then standing straight incidentally extenuating her already apparent charms announces. The Priest has been asked to go see young Dragan he is ill, will you go with him to see Dragan

"Yes, let us attend him," says Aethelwulf.

"Dragan? The boy that found Guyer is sick?" Garpur frowns. "Yes, we must see him."
