Yeah, that was extremely bad luck on my part. The dice were taunting me with all of those 3s, as they were just one short of the number I needed. My odds of failing there were 1 in 32.

My chances of finishing off the Doppelganger without having weakened it first are worse than you think. First I have to make the Observation test. While that's a 7/8 chance, you've just seen me fail at something even easier. Then I only have four dice, not five (Strength 3+2 for the Cultist's Journal, then -1 for the Doppelganger), so I have to succeed at every roll to take it down. That's a 1 in 16 chance, but my luck is very streaky. I could always have a run of extremely good luck. If I'm lucky enough to do 3 damage, the Mysterious Idol could finish it if there's a Reckoning. If I do 2 or less, I recommend using it on the Child of the Goat (which can also advance Doom). Actually, that may be the better move if I do 3 damage, I could always stay in Istanbul and try again next turn. It's better to finish it off in a Combat Encounter, which gives me a chance to flip Purifying the World. Maybe it'll retreat Doom or advance the Mystery or something. If the Doppelganger were gone and no other monsters sprang up close enough, I'd have to do a suicide run to Tunguska to take out the two easy monsters there and flip the Task before I get slaughtered.

I forgot about Advance the Mystery. Now that'd be very useful!

Oh dear. Doom is 5 -1 'cos Diana got crisped -3 advance the Omen--Mythos Phase to come, which leaves Doom 1. If there is a Reckoning, the Goat Spawn or Dark Young may advance Doom. I'll draw the card tomorrow. . . .

Yowza, those look like my rolls!

If the world doesn't end before the next turn, I'd better go to Tunguska just to be certain. If I fail either the Observation roll or the Strength roll against the Doppelganger, I'll be out of luck. I have a much better chance of taking out the Warlock, which will give me the Focus I need to cuff the Goat Spawn and make defeating it a certainty. Flipping the Task with four monsters is even better than three, plus extra bennies for me, but I'll still probably die from the other monsters.

Thanks. I really thought we were gonna win. I'll never voluntarily choose a Dark Pact again, it's just not worth it, especially when a Blessed can evaporate with the first Reckoning. We had some astoundingly bad luck. . . !

Yes Dark Pacts are just terrible. Never take them willingly.

Yeah I thought we were going to crush it until a string of bad rolls killed us. Lots of fun though. I miss the cooperative play by post board games on this forum.

Hey anybody have Robinson Crusoe : Adventures on the Cursed Island. I bet that one would be fun to write and play on play by post.

I played FoD pbp a couple of years ago at BGG. I was Mina Harker, and I remember the Dracula player was really experienced and knew how to wriggle away from us whenever he seemed cornered.

I think Mr. Handy has Crusoe. I've ummd and ahhd about getting it, but decided I didn't want to play it solo.

Yeah, we were so close! I was really looking forward to flipping Purifying the World (not to mention the chance of flipping my Blessing) and seeing what was on the other side. That Mythos card's effect would have really helped, and we'd have only needed one more Clue on the Ancient One to win after that.

Dark Pacts are best avoided unless there's no other choice. I took one during the final battle with Shub-Niggurath and its monsters two games ago because I was desperate and the game was about to end one way or the other - and then I rolled like we were rolling here. I only took one in this game to keep Doom from advancing.

I do have Robinson Crusoe. I played it solo once, and it was a lot of fun. I had a good game going for a while and had my route to victory planned out, but then at the end of the ninth turn I had the worst luck with the weather dice. There were five clouds, three of them winter clouds. I had been at half of my health, and I took just enough damage to kill me. It probably woul be fun to play it play by post, but I can't leave the physical game set up for weeks on end.

I've never played Fury of Dracula, but it sounds like fun. Unfortunately, that one can't be played solo. Mansions of Madness would probably be great to play in this format, but I don't know if anyone else has a copy. I haven't even opened my box yet, as I haven't had time to read the rules and play it.

That would be great! Just think of all the strange creatures Tony could eat to try to satisfy his cravings.

I just got back, and I don't have time to do it tonight. It'll have to be tomorrow night. I hope I'll remember. If you reply to this post in this thread, I'll see it and that will remind me.
