Diego remained in place behind the door to the hall, and Elizabeth was still in secret passage watching through the peephole. Nothing disturbed the workshop on the other side, and automaton stayed motionless.

Elizabeth wondered if dinner had finished and where everyone was.

[Mr. Handy]

Elizabeth, please roll Listen.

Elizabeth heard something and strains her ears.

Elizabeth could hear voices in the corridor from where she was, coming from the direction of the stairs. With her excellent hearing, she could understand every word.

"Oh hello everyone," said Story. "But alas, as I see you all here, I must conclude that I am indeed too late to partake in any evening victuals. 'Tis too bad, as now I am quite hungry. Has everyone else also retired? Or perchance does some time remain for the meal?" There was a pause. "And anyway, where are you all off to now?"

"Ah, have you perhaps been sampling the wines, Madame Story?" replied Jacques "You sound as though you have been. In any event, dinner is finished but I'm sure the Duc's capable staff could whisk you up a three course meal in minutes, should you wish. Perhaps no more wine for now, if I may suggest? Meantime, I should be grateful if you could advise us of the most recent events with our metal friend. As much as the wine allows you to remember."

"Yes, I'm sure the servants will be happy to bring up food and drink," said Leonardo.

[Mr. Handy]

"Master Da Vinci, shall we see what is happening in your quarters?" said Jacques.

"Yes, let us do so," replied Leonardo.

[Mr. Handy]

"Right, Mademoiselle, Master, ah, and you, fellow, follow me," said Jacques. "I believe I shall enter first, just in case." His footsteps approached the entrance from outside.

"Oh please lead on mon ami, hopefully we may find some excitement to work some of tonights fine food off," said Jean Luc, his footsteps following along behind.

Elizabeth stifles a giggle on hearing the conversation. It seems safe enough but she can’t understand why Story should be inebriated. She continues to wait and watch- just in case.
“Diego, careful- our friends approach.” She whispers.

[Mr. Handy]

Elizabeth watched through the peephole as Jacques led the way into the workshop, followed by Jean Luc, Leonardo, Story, and Brook.

She stays hidden, watching just in case anyone was interested in the party.

[Mr. Handy]

Jean Luc picked up the puzzle box, turning it in his hand. "What sights could you show us?" he whispered under his breath, which Elizabeth heard.

Jacques looked over at the automaton. "Good evening metal man," he said. "What have you been doing while we were at the Duc's dinner? Do you have any better idea why you are come alive?"

Suddenly, the automaton sprang into motion and advanced on Jean Luc, its arms outstretched. It had no weapon in them, but it was no less menacing...
