Near one hour latter, finally, 5 guys appear with several boxes full of papers; they leave them in the table and leave without a word.

"We are definitely getting the run around. Once again, why would employees of a pretty tame Federal government department like the DOE be acting screwy and uncooperative like this? With local and Federal law enforcement, on a murder investigation no less."

Despite this, Jalapeño set to and rifled through the records to see what had been provided.

Jalapeño gestured to the Chief's deputy. "You might have better luck than me looking through all this."

He called out to the DOE security people. "OK, send in the people who went into the town yesterday."

The chief and his deputy are reading teh files.
30 minutes latter, three man appear.

[Snapper]

"OK, we're here with a search warrant and your boss has said you will all cooperate. We need every one of you carrying a handgun to put it on the table thanks. Then if you can just identify yourselves, your job here, and your movements yesterday."

"Sooner we get started, sooner we finish."

There are 8 men. They all look very similar: tall, muscular, head shaven.

Jalapeño pointed at the table then put his hands on his hips, deliberately pushing his jacket back to make his DEA badge and holstered handgun visible. He stared at the men and spoke with a level, determined, slightly irritated voice.

"We don't have all day. You are Federal government employees, your management promised cooperation, and we have a search warrant. You will cooperate. Unless you're planning on murdering three law enforcement officers, for which you will most certainly get the death penalty."

"So hurry up. Guns on the table, ID out."

The ID's are all new. Shinning papers that could have been made last day. Everything is in order. Also the guns seem to be very clean.

Jalapeño sighed but took down the names anyway. "This is getting us nowhere."

"Which one of you is the senior guy?" Jalapeño looked at the eight security guys.

Is there an obviously missing Glock along the 8 security employees' weapons? Like 7 guys have Glocks and the 8th has something else?

None of the weapons is a glock. But they are all european models.

Meanwhile, a person from the staff calls you and says that that someone in the phone wants to talk to you.

[Snapper]

"Don't go anywhere."

Jalapeño headed off to take the phone call.

[Mr. Handy]

"Hey, it's Alicia," says Alicia, lowering her voice so she won't be overheard. "I'm at the station with Joyce. Rose is gone. This creature came out of the living room wall somehow, just phased through it. The two of us fled, but Rose stayed and shot at it. By the time we came back, there was no trace of her. I think that's what happened to Joyce's son. Wherever it took him, it probably took her to the same place."

[Snapper]

Jalapeño listened to Alicia then swore under his breath.

"Well, I guess we wouldn't be here if this was normal. Don't say any more, I don't trust the people at this place so I don't trust their phones."

"We're getting nowhere here anyway. Total lack of cooperation beyond being civil to us. I'm coming straight back now, as fast as I can move the police chief."

True to his word, Jalapeño hung up and raced back to the Chief. "Chief, we got an emergency, we got to get back to your Station ASAP. No more time to waste on these bozos."

The police seem worried and ask:

"Did something bad happened?"


When you seem to leave, the people of the station seemed very surprised and suspicious.
