The Incident Room: General Chat

As a London copper, I’ve seen some pretty weird shit, but even I was taken aback when I learned that magic was actually a thing. Real, proper magic, with spells and everything!

Also, ghosts are real! And vampires, trolls, fairies, river gods… and there’s this whole subculture of weirdos and half-fae… oh, and don’t get me started on talking bloody foxes…

Shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Metropolitan Police secretly know all about this crap. There’s the Special Assessment Unit, run from this posh house called The Folly by a posh Detective Inspector called Nightingale (and his apprentice Peter Grant), that investigates supernatural crimes and other weird bollocks. And it turns out, they’re recruiting…

Leo, be daring! Run the risk of hyper-brain-melt degradation, one of the cool background core tenets of the RoL setting. Be the first!

And if you fail the roll, well, surely Leo's looks and style have always been more important to the party than his brains anyway?

Be warned: in my other RoL game, one player pushed a failed magic roll, fumbled that, then fumbled the HTD roll. It wasn’t pretty…

Leo's the team pretty-boy, he doesn't need too many functional brain cells for that! The rest of the party can just steer / bobble him in the right direction after the HTD has exacted its awful toll...

I like the thought of being the pretty boy for our motley crew. I will do my best not to let you down with my sartorial choices.

Cauliflower brain is not a desired outcome for my character, so I have decided to avoid pushing rolls unless lives are on the line.

Just finished the "Wolf" UK TV series (Game of Thrones goes mad in a modern day Welsh murder mystery). Keep thinking Ukweli Roach would make a brilliant Peter Grant...

What's a good collective noun for skinheads?

A stain of skinheads.

A Reich of skinheads.

A hooligan of skinheads.

(Too soon for allegedly humorous misuse of Reich?)

So, fun fact time, my younger brother is in the police and he's explained to me before that this is actually how they deal with boy racers in real life - chasing them down or trying to stop them in the middle of racing is too dangerous, so they will literally park up a distance away on whatever car park the racers are meeting at, get all the registration numbers of the cars and run those through the DVLA to get the identities of the owners, then go and arrest them the next day instead, or send a summons to court in the post, with the photos and such from the night before as evidence.

My brother's done that a few times before he moved to his current team (Response) while he was moving between teams when training, watching the racers on car parks of supermarkets and shopping centres before they start. Which is how I figured out what Izzy's reaction would be to Skipper taking his candid shots :P

There has been a movement away from car chases over here in the states because they are so dangerous. Some local departments now have strict rules about automobile chases, especially in urban areas where civilian casualties could mount up quickly. But I'm convinced driving fast is one of the reasons police over here sign up for the job in the first place, so I don't think we will ever completely get rid of the practice.
