IC -2 - Yesterday Upon the Stair - Everyone

It didn't matter if her shot was true or not, at least the body stopped moving. Lowering her shotgun, Shirley tells Louis and Darren about what just happened and how that used to be Old Danny.

"We'll end up just like him if we don't get out of here. Where did you come from, Danny?"

As Shirley describes what just happened, Louis is staring around the room wide eyed. He's breathing very quickly, hyperventilating really.

He doesn't know why everyone is just standing there so calmly. That mutilated body Shirley called 'Old Danny' is moving, pulling itself along the floor in a smear of blood, slowly edging towards Harry!

Shirley knows Old Danny sleeps rough around Northfield. People find him in their outhouses and garages and he quickly moves on. He probably found his way into the Barnaker House for a bit of shelter. What happened to him? Well, she's not sure about that. Something attacked him, killed him she supposes.

Scrabbling back to her feet again, BB gun still held tight but at least lowered a little, Shirley looks at the body of the old vagrant, at the ragged stump of his hand, something nags at her. She looks over to the closet - there's no sign in there of the missing hand. Then something touches her elbow...

She jumps.

Spinning round to face whatever it is behind her she raises the BB gun and points it into Kyle's face. He's white as a sheet already but doesn't seem to notice her threatening gesture. He just points at the stump. 'Hand of Glory,' he mutters. Then, louder, 'Hand of Glory.' He points at the cord over the man's shoulder. 'Hanged man. Hanged man, criminal. Makes a Hand of Glory.' He stops speaking and for a few seconds just stares at the body. 'Magic. Locks doors. Unlocks doors. Long as the candle burns.'

[Mr. Handy]

"That sounds like something out of a game of Dungeons and Dragons," says Harry. "You think his hand might be able to open the front door? Or that it'll open if a candle stops burning?"

"Kyle! Don't scare me like that!" Shirley lowers her BB quickly, still terribly shaken by what is going on.

"He's... he's dead. Dead-dead. Stop looking at it it won't do any good," she tells both Louis and Kyle.

She can't quite remember is Kyle has been with them all along or if he just showed up right now like Darren did, but the way he was acting was very worrying.

"What are you saying? Are you alright?"

Louis isn’t taking a blind bit of notice of Shirley. He stares very hard at the body and then jumps, straight at Harry, pushing him backwards.
“Get out of the way, Harry!” He screams.

[Mephistophilis]

In response to Harry's question, Kyle just repeats, 'Hand of Glory.' Then after a second he shakes his head. 'I mean, maybe someone made a Hand of Glory. Out of Old Danny's hand. They could be using that to lock us in the...oof' As Louis thumps into Harry, pushing him out the way, he crashes into Kyle and sends him reeling backwards.

Harry's now out of the range of the creeping body but Old Danny continues to drag himself forwards, more towards Louis now, staring at him with empty eye sockets. Leaving a streak of blood behind him. Why is no one doing anything?

She thinks Kyle was with them when they came down through the trapdoor. But it's a bit hazy. Was he with them? She can't remember. Everything is moving too quickly. It's hard to keep it straight in her head.

Harry straightens himself after the collision and backs away. "What are you doing?" he asks Louis.

Darren watching on as all this unfolds shakes his head in confusion and goes to place a hand on Louis's shoulder, pulling him back.Louis! Whats up?!! What are you doing!!"

Louis jumps out from under Darren's hand like he's had an electric shock, he looks wildly round at eveyone,
"Are you crazy? What are you doing just standing there?! Can't you see?" He looks at the body of Old Danny and starts backing fearfully away towards the west wall.

"What do you see Louis? What are youl scared of?" ,l Pointing his crowbar at the body, "He aint moving!"

[Mr. Handy]

"Yeah," says Harry. "He was moving before, but he's dead now."

In tears now, Louis sobs, “He’s still alive, can’t you see the trail of blood?” He swings his bat to and fro as he stumbles backwards.

"This place is messing with us," Shirley tries to tell Louis gently. I thought I saw it too. Maybe I did. Maybe he was. But not anymore. Let's get away from him."

Turning her attention back to Kyle, she tries to make sense of his words.

"How did you find out all of that? and do you know how we can break the spell?"

Woah now buddy! Watch where your swinging that thing!!! Look buddy, if he was moving before he aint moving now" Darren says trying to reassure Louis raising his crowbar up defensively.

[Mr. Handy]

"They're right," says Harry. "This place messes with your mind. Don't believe everything you see."

[Mephistophilis]

Picking himself off the ground, Kyle shakes his head and his eye seem to clear a bit. 'Uh, the Hand of Glory, I read about it. In a book from the library. It's the hand of a hanged man, uh, sometimes they say it's the left, sometimes the hand that did a murder. There's supposed to be magical powers in a Hand of Glory if, uh, if it's used like a candlestick, a lighted candle, they say, eugh, a candle made of the fat from the same dead body the hand came from. It can freeze people and open any door. Or lock it. That's all I remember!' He shakes his head again. 'I guess, uh, maybe if you put out the candle it stops the magic. Maybe.'

"It's okay, I understand," says Harry. "That trick even had me fooled for a little."
