To the Manor borne… (everyone)

A brutal murder has taken place in the small Highland village of Strathmorn. The accused claims that the ghosts from a local haunted manor are to blame!

Piqued by the alleged supernatural angle to the case, renowned Psychical Researcher, Harry Price, is seeking a team of responsible persons ‘of leisure and intelligence, intrepid, critical and unbiased’ to investigate the haunting.

Doesn’t that just sound like the sort of thing you’ve been looking for?

Ascot snorts in amusement. "In the expeditioning business, we call that 'tracks and traces' to be polite, but I take your point. Let's see what's up here." He heads up the stairs, revolver still carefully pointed straight up.

Bonnie follows, her rifle also pointed safely upward, not too bothered by the explicit description.

This is the layout of the ground floor of the Manor House.

If I’ve got it right, you’re heading up the left-hand spiral staircase?

Is it? Is that the one that goes up to the turret?

There are turrets on the diagonal corners but reading back through the posts, it’s the one in the top left of the image that you’re moving towards. That appeared undisturbed, whereas the one in the bottom right of the image had footsteps in the dust.

I think it is the one on the left. I remember seeing the description after we opened the left door.

At the top of the spiral staircase, illuminated by the light from a arrowslit window, was a pile of broken bones…

"Bones. No obvious leopards. Doc, I'm thinking this is your specialty." Ascot shines a light on the bones but gets out of the way.

OOC:   Is there an obvious skull or part of a skull in the pile? That would be a give-away. 💀

The size of the bones suggest that they are human. There is no sign of a skull, although the bones are spread across the landing area so it could be somewhere out of sight.

Biology or Medicine would be appropriate.

Definitely human, most likely male, given the shape of the pelvis. By the size, they’re from an adult and they lack signs of wear/arthritis which would suggest old age.

The larger bones do look as if something has gnawed at them to get at the bone marrow so can I have a SAN check, please…

‘What are they Doc?! Are they human?!’

‘I haven’t a clue, frankly! They could be halibut for all I know…!’ ;)

Ascot takes the proffered femur gingerly, between two fingers, looking slightly appalled. "Charming."
