Duc's Palace, Guest Wing Corridor - Vyones, Auvergne, France
11:00 PM - Sunday, April 19, 1517

Chevalier Jacques du Baudin could not sleep. Something was bothering him. He could not put his finger on it, but his instincts had served him well in the past and kept him alive as a fighting man for longer than many. Since he could not sleep, he left his room and took a walk through the guest wing's corridors.

Jacques, please roll Listen.

Baudin is too lost in his thoughts to really pay attention.

Baudin's eyes check everywhere, out of force of habit.

Jacques had to do a double take as he passed a branching hallway off to the right. The door at the end of it that led to one of the guest suites was ajar.

Baudin:

Baudin raises his eyebrows in surprise. Moving as quietly as he can so as not to wake anyone with his midnight amble, he heads over to the ajar door. Despite his best efforts though, floor boards creak.

The large chamber on the other side of the door was Leonardo da Vinci's temporary workshop, with a door at the far end leading further into the suite. The artist and inventor was one of the Duc's other guests, and he had been provided with this suite so that he could continue to work while he was staying here. Jacques saw a painting in progress on an easel, though he couldn't make out any details in the darkness. An odd contraption whose purpose he couldn't even begin to fathom was in the center of the room. In an open space behind that was an odd blue box, taller than a man, with a pair of doors and writing he couldn't hope to read given the lack of light. Beyond that stood a suit of armor, a halberd clutched in its elaborate steel gauntlets. That halberd's blade was embedded in the upper chest of a man dressed in black clothing. He lay on his back on the floor between the armor and a large oak desk. A second man in black clothing, this one alive, was crouching over him, taking a crystal and an open puzzle box from the dead man's clenched fists. In spite of Jacques's less than stealthy approach, the man did not appear to have heard him.

Baudin:

Baudin's eyes widen. He quickly scans the area within arm's reach or so.

Spoiler:
I assume Baudin is unarmed? Is there anything within arm's reach or so that could be thrown or used as a weapon?

It's up to you if you want to have your weapons. If you got fully dressed, you'd have them on your belt. Swords were accessories that people wore 500 years ago as part of their outfits, as well as being functional. If you were in your nightrobe, however, you wouldn't have them. If you don't have your weapons with you, please roll Luck to see if there's anything within reach.

Jacques:

Spoiler:
I'm happy to say Jacques is - to be decent if he is seen - just in hastily pulled on trousers, boots plus the shirt he was originally trying to sleep in. The only weapon he has is the dagger he always shoves down his boot. I won't worry about his trying to find another weapon though. Let me know if that's not OK though.

Jacques stealthily draws the dagger from his boot, with a practised move flips it to catch the blade, then in one motion raises it behind his head and throws it at the man in black.

Total 4 damage.

Jacques draws breath and roars with his best battlefield voice, "Murder! Intruders in the palace! Murder!"

Spoiler:
Is the damage for a medieval dagger 1d4? That was what I found in Cthulhu Dark Ages, but the modern day equivalent is 1d4+2, possibly because of better metals etc.

The dagger struck the man in the left shoulder, hard! Then, to make things even more confusing, the door of the blue box opened, and a teenage girl in outlandish clothes stepped out of it.

Daggers generally do 1D4 damage in any era, so you presumed correctly. 1D4+2 is for a fighting knife, which is longer and has a crossguard (and thus can parry). I've added weapon damage to your character sheet.
