The sheriff points the way and say: "we must be quick!"

"Right, follow me." Rourke draws his automatic and heads off, trying to stay close to buildings and away from the empty middle of the street. He makes for the building indicated by the sheriff, looking out for crazy locals.

"Let's make it quick, then," says Mary, following, her weapons ready.

Santino unslings his carbine, providing cover to the others from the window and then sprinting to catch up when they're in place.

50 minutes

You arrive at the place. It seems a normal building in this part of town, made of timber. The windows are broken, the door is open and in the floor there are some stains of... blood?

"Careful," whispers Mary, "there may be some inside."

"Well, let's get inside and off the street before we're seen. We're looking for phones, communicators, and anything else you see that might be useful."

Rourke holds his automatic in the Navy regs approved two-handed grip and stalks quietly through the door.

Santino strolls unhurriedly into the shop. He carries the laser carbine confidently but loosely, certainly not in any kind of military approved fashion. He heads towards the back, aiming to check out the storeroom.

Mary slips inside and looks around, her pistol and knife ready.

And suddenly... 4 infested came screaming in your direction from a stair.

"Damnation," Rourke mutters. He swings the automatic towards the locals and takes a shot at one.

OOC:   Miss.

The moment he sees movement, Santino takes to one knee, raises the laser carbine and squeezes off a shot. 'We've got trouble.'

So I'm not super familiar with the rules. As I understand it, with a DEX of B Santino gets a bonus to using the laser carbine. He has no skill but PCs get a zero in weapon skills so don't get a penalty. I need an 8+ on 2d6 at baseline but with a +2 for the advantageous DEX.

Rourke handles his automatic like a man who has done the basic training some time ago but lacks familiarity. Somehow, he manages to miss the man he was aiming at and wing the man behind. "Damnation," he mutters again.

Since the others had started shooting and made noise, Mary figured there was nothing to lose by making more and opened fire at the mob. She didn't really care which one she hit, but she managed to shoot one of them.

OOC: You roll to hit and damage as normal. Then you roll again to hit and if you hit, roll damage even if you failed the first target (imagine that the first bullet missed a person but it hit the guy just behind).

Santino's laser blast slices through his target and into the one approaching from behind him. 'Let's take them down and get out of here.' Two down with one shot he thinks to himself, secretly he's rather pleased that he's still got it.

Mary's bullet actually passes through her target and hits someone else behind it.

They all fall to the ground, badly hurt and begging for help and you see the bugs leaving the mouths...

As soon as one of the bugs is far enough away from the people that there's no risk of hitting them, Mary takes a shot at it, narrowly missing the small target.

"You get the bugs, I'll look for communicators." Careful to stay out of the way of his colleagues' bug shooting, Rourke starts quickly scouring the building for phones or other communicators or anything that looks handy.

Casting a glance at the injured locals, he tells them, "Lots of help is on the way."

Mary see 3 bugs coming in her direction, and another one escaping.
The injured people continues complaining.

Santino joins Mary in taking pot-shots at the bugs, focusing on the ones coming at them. 'Die you little bastards, you're not getting me again.' He fries one of them with a well aimed laser beam.

Mary attacks the nearest bug.

If the bugs are now right near me, I'll be using the knife, which gives me a better chance to hit. If they're still some distance away, I'll keep using the pistol this round. I don't want to get close if it's not necessary.

That hits if the bugs are close enough for the knife, but I don't know how much damage it does.

OOC: I only found a dagger: it makes 2d6 of damage.
Mary pinnes a bug with her knife in the ground and she can see it moving the legs, trying (in vain) to escape; Santino fries another one; the last follolw his companion and escapes.
The other bug starts running away.

Rourke finds a radio and a terminal.

20 minutes.

Rourke shoves the radio into his jacket pocket and picks up the terminal. "Back to the Sheriff's Office, do we think?"

OOC:   Hopefully, the terminal can be carried?

Mary takes a shot at the fleeing bug, but it scuttles away too fast. She crushes the bug she pinned with her knife using her boot, then wipes the blade off on a nearby surface and helps the injured people.

Suddenly you all hear some gunshots and then a roar of a crowd in a distance

"That sounds like Ota. Well, he seems fairly capable of taking care of himself. At least he'll be distracting the locals, but hopefully not attracting their attention so much that he can't get away. Let's get moving while he's the centre of attention."

"You know, what would be really useful right now would be a ladder that we could use to get up to the upper level of the sheriff's office. Sheriff, can you think of where we could find a ladder nearby?"

Rourke cautiously heads out, carrying the terminal and with the radio in his jacket pocket.

Mary helps the injured people outside. "Maybe we should just get back to the sheriff's office while we can," she says.

"Well, We have a ladder in a room in my office".- says the sheriff

"What if we get someone inside to pass it through a window to us, we climb up to an upper floor window, get in and pull it up behind us?"

Rourke continues hussling towards the sheriff's office, trying to stay close to buildings and away from the open middle of roads

Mary follows, leading the people they rescued. She reloads her gun and keeps it and her knife ready.

You arrive at the sheriff office... and see 6 infested. As soon as they see you, they start running in your direction.
10 minutes.

Mary opens fire on the mob of infected people, drilling two of them.

"Hell and damnation. Stay away from us!" Rourke curses.

Clutching the terminal with one arm, Rourke swings the automatic one-handed towards the infected and takes a shot.

Rourke hits one crazy local and the bullet keeps going and hits the crazy behind.

'We could do with being a bit more stealthy,' notes Santino, blasting away with his laser carbine, the focused beam slicing through one attacker and cutting into another behind.

You easily dispatch your enemies... when you hear the sound of a truck quickly coming in your direction with Ota and several people in it in panic... and milions of bugs following it and some distance latter, hundreds of infested furious.

Clenching a fist in triumph at dispatching their attackers, Santino then catches sight of the crowd heading their way.
