IC-Ep 3-A Mission From God(Gui only)

1517, Auvergne, France: The Duc d'Auvergne is hosting an elaborate gathering culminating in a masquerade ball in his palace in Vyones, to which he has invited quite a few notable people. Travelers from throughout Europe and North Africa are in attendance to see and be seen. But there are some strange unseen things lurking behind the scenes that may put everyone in danger. Can Story, Elizabeth, Brook, and others attending the party unravel the mysteries and prevent madness from reigning supreme?

This is Classic Doctor Who meets Call of Cthulhu, the sixth of a series of connected adventures set in different eras and locations that includes The Terror Out of Time, The Ninth Planet, The Shadow Over Dunwich, The Brotherhood of Death, and The Horror in the Blackout.

There was complete silence on the other side of the door, and trying the handle, Gui found it to be unlocked.

If you want to try to understand the journal, you can roll against Own Language: French at half skill to get the gist of it, as the languages are similar. It would take hours to read and translate the diary under these conditions, but if you just want to read one entry, it won't take anywhere near as long. The better your success on the roll, the faster you can translate it.

Retreating once more to the passageway, Gui attempted to read the journal.

Gui’s own language is 65 so let’s see how he gets on…

Edit: Nope!

The diary might as well have been written in Greek, for all the sense that Gui could make of it. Too bad. It was probably very juicy.

Gui sighed. He’d been hoping to find out a bit more about the Lady Bianca and why she was interested in Da Vinci’s jewel.

He carefully replaced the journal, then carefully entered her bedroom, checking that she wasn’t in situ. Happy he was alone, he first of all checked under the bed. It didn’t hurt to have a hiding place in an emergency, after all…

It didn't look like there was anything under the bed.

Satisfied that there was a temporary, if somewhat obvious, hiding place available should the Lady Bianca return, Gui took a quick look around her boudoir, searching for anything of interest.

Gui thoroughly searched the room, but he was confident that he had found everything of interest.

Gui let himself out of the room and into the passage again, glancing up and down to make sure he was still alone. He fished out his knife and carefully carved a ‘B’ in the timber of the doorframe, in a spot hidden in the shadows where only he would know where to look.

Standing up, he looked around once more and then continued in the same direction as before.

Gui came to another secret door with a peephole and a lever. Looking through the peephole, he could see another single room, this one showing signs that someone was staying there.

Gui could see that this was Jacques's room. He recognized the suit of armor that the knight had removed. Indeed, Jacques was in his bed under the covers, and Bianca was there with him. They were doing exactly what he imagined they would be.

Numerous thoughts went through Gui’s mind as he watched Jacques humping away like an old boar trying to service a sow. He’d thought about trying to entice Bianca into his own bed, but ’Pas de restes pour moi, merci!’ he thought to himself. A shame, for he thought she’d have better taste, but if she was willing to sleep with that old fool, then she was permanently struck from his list!

He carefully carved a ‘J’ into an obscure part of the framework then moved onto the next room…

The next room Gui found had two beds, but there was no sign of recent occupation. It looked like a standard room otherwise.

Gui wandered through the secret passages until he came to another secret door. The passage came to a dead end here. Peering through the peephole, he identified it as Leonardo's workshop, though it was too dark to see much detail. The automaton remained standing where they had left it, and the puzzle box was on the desk. The door leading out of the workshop into the hall was closed, as was another door that presumably led to Leonardo's bedroom.

Mindful that the robot appeared to be able to move of its own free will and had a homicidal streak, Gui decided that discretion was the better option and retreated back down the passageway towards the playwright’s room to see if they had settled down and fallen asleep.

Gui saw that the main room of the playwright's suite was exactly as he had left it. The family had gone to bed, and the bedroom doors were closed. The only thing he could hear, and that just barely, was the faint sound of snoring coming from the master bedroom where the playwright had retired.

Gui very carefully depressed the latch, pausing it reached it’s full extension, then ever-so-gently eased the door open a pouce or two, then stopped and listened again.
