Gui's sleep was undisturbed. Because of the time spent on his nocturnal activities, he slept late. He awakened a couple of hours past dawn.

Gui lay in bed for a short while, ruminating on the events of the previous day. He wondered what would happen once the loss of the manuscript was discovered and whether Father Ignacio would recant and publicly denounce Jacques for adultery. He suspected he would not, but one could live in hope!

Pushing back the covers, Gui looked around for his clothes, fetching out a clear pair of hose and undergarments, before dressing and carefully anointing himself with perfume. Settling his wig upon his head, he was heading for the door when he paused, pivoting on one foot, casting a glance around the room to make sure everything was as it should be and that no incriminating evidence, such as a missing manuscript, had somehow found its way in while he slept…

Gui looked around his room. but there was no sign of the manuscript. The chair was exactly where he had left it, and nothing appeared to have been disturbed in the night.

Happy no one was trying to frame him for a crime he may have committed, Gui ventured out into the corridor, looking around to see if anyone else was about.

Gui emerged into the corridor. Coming up it from the direction of the stairs was a small entourage led by Henri, wearing his livery. Following him was a very, very old man dressed in a silk outfit and a turban, leaning on a much younger man who looked to be of similar eastern origin. More servants followed, carrying their baggage.

"Ah, this is Gui l'Argot," said Henri.

”Salutations distinguées,” said Gui, with a florid bow. ”With whom do I have the honour of discoursing?” he asked.
