Henri led the large collection of guests, including Elizabeth, Jacques, Gui, Jean Luc, Bey Abdu'l, and numerous others back to the Great Hall, where they found Story and Brook.

"I have news for you, mesdemoiselles," Henri said the Story and Brook. "There has been a change in the entertainment schedule. The Galiano players will no longer be performing Le Roi en Jaune. Instead, the masquerade ball has been moved to tonight, and they will perform a different play tomorrow evening. If you would like to peruse our wide selection of costumes and masks, I'd be happy to escort you."

Elizabeth takes Story and Brook aside.
“We’ve managed to stop the ‘King in Yellow’ being performed. Father Ignacio has read it and deemed it blasphemous and the Bey persuaded Le Duc to cancel it.

However, we still think the players may attempt something else tonight so we have to thwart whatever it is today.”

”If only there was a way to find out what they are thinking…” said Gui, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

"Well, I shall take my leave for the moment, if the ladies present will excuse me. I have an appointment with a very grumpy, fighty, and large horse, and a most beautiful lady."

Jacques will head stable-wards.

Says Elizabeth watching Jaques go.
“He’s styled his hair differently this morning.”

Jacques gave L'Argot a puzzled, not to say suspicious, look but shrugged modestly. "Habits of a lifetime," he said over his shoulder as he headed out.
