IC-Ep 4-The Greater Escape(Anna Jerkins only)

[Mr. Handy]

Sewers- London, England
8:40 PM - Tuesday, September 10, 1940

Catherine easily heard the approach of Anna and the orderly and turned to look in their direction. She began to chant under her breath, moving her hands in strange gestures.

[Mephistophilis]

Shouting to the orderly, 'Stop her, now!' Anna charges at Catherine Exeter and swings her knee towards her midriff, hoping to wind her and break the spell.

[Mr. Handy]

Catherine grunted in pain as Anna kicked her in the stomach, and then the orderly came up behind Catherine, put down his lantern, and grabbed her. "How do we get her back?" he asked. "We can't go the way we came. How'd she do that, anyway?"

OOC,Kicks normally can't be used as knockout attacks, unless you can somehow get elevation to kick someone in the head, but they do cause more damage. OOC,No problem, Anna just wanted to stop the spell.

'We need to gag her' says Anna. 'I don't know how she did it but I don't want her doing it again.' She looks for something to stuff in Catherine's mouth and something to tie her hands with.

'I think we're going to have to get out the same way she was planning to go.'

[Mr. Handy]

Anna took out a bandage and used it to gag Catherine, then bound her arms behind her back with another one.

"Okay," said the orderly, holding onto Catherine with one hand while he picked up his lantern again with the other. "Only we don't know how she was planning to get out."

[Mephistophilis]

'Well we must be in the sewers under the sanatorium, I should think there would be access tunnels to the surface at some point.'

"Yeah, but where?" said the orderly.

[Mephistophilis]

Anna looks up and down the passageway, trying to figure out what exits there are. She gestures to head in the direction Catherine was heading when they caught up with her. 'I guess we keep going this way.'

[Mr. Handy]

The walkway led to a four-way intersection, where two streams of sewer water crossed. The walkway continued around a corner to the right, and it also crossed the waterways by a bridge going straight ahead and another on the left. Catherine mumbled behind her gag, but it was impossible to understand what she was saying.

[Mephistophilis]

'So which way were you going to meet up with your son-in-law?' asks Anna. 'No need to talk, you can just point.'

[Mr. Handy]

Catherine shook her head no.

[Mephistophilis]

'Right it is then' says Anna. She hopes that she can remain in the vicinity of the sanatorium and find a ladder or some other access point. But she makes sure not to go so far she can't retrace her steps.

[Mr. Handy]

It didn't take long for Anna to see a ladder leading up to a manhole cover in the glow of her lantern. Whether or not this was Catherine's intended exit was anyone's guess.

[Mephistophilis]

Anna starts to climb the ladder, 'When I get to the top send Mrs Exeter up next' she says to the orderly.

[Mr. Handy]

Anna scaled the ladder easily, soon reaching the top. Removing the manhole cover and poking her head above the surface, she could see a deserted street behind the sanitarium, not far from it.

The orderly untied Catherine's arms so she could climb the ladder. "Up you go," he said.

Catherine removed the gag from her mouth and moved to the bottom of the ladder. Then she turned and fled down the tunnel into darkness.

[Mephistophilis]

'Dash it!' exclaims Anna, 'Well, there's no point going after her now, come on up and we'll return to the sanatorium.' Anna thinks she had better warn the others that Catherine Exeter has escaped as soon as she is able.

[Mr. Handy]

The orderly followed Anna up the ladder and back to street level. The bombs weren't falling nearby, but fires could be seen and explosions heard in the distance. The two of them went into the sanitarium via the side entrance, which was closest.
