Borneo- searching for fauna and flora

Mr Clements gives you some directions: the more you go north in direction of the mountain, the more you will find strange things.

Shotgun at the ready, safari suit straightened and pith helmet squared, Crowley looks north. "Fine day for it. Shall we?"

Jan saunters over with her elephant gun over her shoulder. She squints at the sun.
“Let’s go!”

Crowley's senses are alert but he is largely ignoring the fauna and flora, as is his want. "Jungle reminds me of my pet spider. I miss Mr Fluffy, traitor that he was."

Jan stalks ahead, peering carefully through the undergrowth but seeing little.

Crowley notices that the trees have strange forms, some twisted, others like if they had... human shapes? Some strange fruits are in the ground. He also notice lot''s of footprints of diferent animals.

Jan notice that the trees are of completly unknow varieties. She never saw anything like this... or read about it.

Crowley crouches down near a piece of fruit. Rather cautiously, he pokes it with his Gurkha knife, slightly concerned it will explode poisonous juice in his face.

"We might lay eyes on some of these strange animals that have been mentioned."

OOC:   If he can, Crowley will chop the piece of fruit in half, careful not to touch it with his bare hands. He will only touch it with his knife and perhaps a stick to keep it in place.

Jan looks up at the strange trees. “I’ve never seen or heard of anything like these plants before. I wonder if the disease has come from them. Like an allergic reaction almost.”

"I bow to your expertise. They certainly look strange to me. Could they have been thrown up from some subterranean world by the volcano? Or else they may have been secretly bred for their dangerous properties by our snake friends."

“Ha, I’m no expert on flora; I’m only guessing. But I like your subterranean theory; the plants’ appearance ties in with the earthquake far too neatly. Whether it’s random or by design is the big question.”
Jan steps back away from Crowley.
“So I’d be careful with that grapefruit.”

Crowley manages to secure the fruit without any risks. You can resume the travel. After a while you see more and more strange fruit and plants, until you seem to be in a completly different forest in a different world.

You don't hear any wildlife sounds (no birds, insects or monkeys). Except for some very near rustling sounds, like if some small animals were silently stalking you. You see some hoof prints in direction of the mountain... and a pack of 4 rodent-creatures with small tentacles dangling from their snouts who seem to preparing to attack you (the hoof prints are not from this creatures ).

"Agghh!! Rat things!!" Crowley calls out in alarmed disgust / horror. Not waiting for an attack to happen, he instinctively raises his shotgun and fires one barrel.

Jan swiftly takes aim with her elephant gun. “They look rather like tapirs.” She says through the corner of her mouth. The gun booms.
