Chapter 3- Borneo

[Mr. Handy]

"Yes, let's go," says Harry. "At least we'll get a good look at them. And, hey, maybe one of them will understand Naacal."

[kabukiman]

You go in direction of the survey camp; after a quick walk, in a dirty road, you arrive at an area that has been cleaned from trees; there are several tents and western people analysing maps and samples. They look surprised at you.

[Mr. Handy]

"Hello," says Harry. "Do you speak English?"

[Snapper]

Crowley looks around suspiciously. "And where are the sick people?"

[Mephistophilis]

Malone raises his hand in greeting. 'Buenos días.'

“What’s happened to all the trees? Have they been cut down?” Jan prods a dead branch with her foot.

"We've been sent to test all personnel to insure that no one is infected with this new strain." Butch says as they near the camp. "Is anyone feeling ill?"

[kabukiman]

A tall man appears and in british english asks:
"Hi, I'm Richard Clements responsable for the survey, so we cut the trees to make some diggings Yes, most of my men are sick; two actually died and we had to stop the work, The military don't let us go out. So, you have a cure or something like that? Those stupid natives have been blaming us of some curse created by a local god who is angered with our survey

[Mr. Handy]

"We can develop one," says Harry. "First we have to run some tests, and then we'll have what we need to complete it. What did the natives call their god?"

[Snapper]

"And any idea how the sickness started? Did someone acting strange arrive at your camp? A possible carrier?"

[Mephistophilis]

'You didn't uncover anything...unusual...in your excavations?' asks Alex, one hand in his pocket, turning over the misshapen idol in between his fingers.

“And did the start of the sickness coincide with the earthquake?” Jan adds to the list of questions.

[kabukiman]

"That is more complicated then that. You see, there was a first team that was explorng the area and they sent a message saying they found something, obviously diamonds or gold, but they didn't say what because a rival company could intercept it; anyway, they all died with the earthquake. We arrived some time latter and the locals were all happy because they were getting rich crops and strange fruits that nobody had ever seen between this area and the mountain; Anyway, after a few days, the fruits started to wither and the first sick people appeared. Obviously the peasants blaned us, by saying that since we had started to make diggings, the god of the mounbtain have beens enraged and was punishing everyone. And no, I don't know the name of the god, why should I? And we haven't be able to find anything we are still cleaing the debris. But now, that you tell, there was a guy here, a french adventurer exploring the area that vanished; some days latter one of the members of my expedition also vanished. I presumed that they both tried to escape the quarantine zone that the army created."

[Starspawn338]

"Well, let's take this one step at a time. Can you have the least sick people in your camp come here and get tested? Then we can figure out what variation of infection this is and synthesize an antidote, if possible." Butch says authoritatively. "Then we can investigate the field and see if we can tell what is causing this."

[Mr. Handy]

"Is there anyone here who speaks the natives' language?" asks Harry. "We're going to need to communicate with them."

[Snapper]

Crowley looks over at Harry. "Personally, I've always found yelling accompanied by some simple sign language works well enough with natives who don't speak proper English."

"I want to see one of these strange trees with their strange fruit." Crowley starts peering about for any such trees.

[Mephistophilis]

'As much as it pains me to say it,' notes Alex, 'I think we're going to need to look at this mountain.'

“Well, how about you chaps inspect the natives and Crowley nd I will look around the local area for strange fruit and animals?” Jan suggests.

[Snapper]

"Capital suggestion! At least the fruit is something I can shoot!" Crowley grins maniacally.
