The year is 1935 (january). In South America, the Chaco War finished more than one year ago between Bolivia and Paraguay; but there are still ocasional "incidents" in the border. The reason for the war, was the local territory which is believed to be rich in oil. Anyway, reports surfaced of the existence of pyramides. The Caduceus Foundation, a organization with charitable purposes (they deliver medical aid to civilians caught up in the war) and cultural interests (they finance archaeological expeditions) has made a quick deal with the Miskatonik University (who received a huge publicity after discovering an entire new civilization in Antarctica): Caduceus would pay the expenses, the MU would send the people. The Miskatonik University immediatly decide to send a group to make the exploration and excavation. Unfortunely, with the death of several teachers and promissing students in the last expedition, they are also forced to send people from other departments and even workers to make the dig. You are going to an area deep in the jungle of the Gran Chaco, where it is supposed to be near some ruins. In the camp, waiting for you, are members of the University of San Andreas from the city of La Paz sent by the Bolivian goverment to be sure that you don't steal any artefacts (and also to claim the glory of any findings) and a couple of members of the Caduceus foundation giving support to the local population.

Extra information:
Bolivia is a landlocked country in South America. Prior to the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in the sixteenth century, the land we now know as Bolivia was part of the Inca Empire. Bolivia became an independent country in 1825. The population is multiethnic, with Spanish being the predominant language. The Bolivian climate is subtropical, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 29°C (60 to 85°F). The weather is typically rainy and humid.
The scenario takes place in the Gran Chaco’s northern region; a sparsely populated area, its terrain is a mix of arid areas and forest. The forests are vast, made up of lowgrowing hardwood trees. Thorny bushes are very common and often spread over large areas. Elsewhere, grasses grow as tall as a man on horseback. There are few roads or rail lines in these remote locations. Animal life is varied and exotic, including: armadillos, jaguars, tapirs, capybaras, piranha, many lizards and snakes, all manner of biting and stinging insects, and poisonous toads.
Welcome to the jungle!
