Madeline Steadman followed Archie and Anna out to Anna's car.

Archie:

Archie turns back to Mrs Steadman, smiling encouragingly. "I'm sure this is a very distressing time for you but I hope you took some comfort from speaking with your mother? I'm sure you were of comfort to her."

"I did, thank you, Reverend," said Madeline.

OOC,Who's driving, and where in the car is everyone sitting?

Anna quietly starts the car and pulls off. She hopes Archie has better luck with Mrs Steadman than she has.

OOC,Sounds like Archie is in the front,Madeline in the back, Anna driving

Anna pulled out and began driving west after her passengers got in her car. "Doctor, do you think my mother will ever be able to leave the sanitorium?" asked Madeline.

'I do hope so Mrs Steadman, I do hope so' sighs Anna.

"So do I," said Madeline.

Anna checks the rear view mirror to see if any of the others have followed them as she suggested.

'So, Mrs Steadman, what do you think your mother will do now? Will she try to escape again?'

"Probably," said Madeline. "She's not the sort to give up. I really don't want her to get hurt, though. Can't you release her into my custody? She's been locked away for ten years now, and it hasn't really helped her."

'That's definitely something I will discuss with Dr Stoddard but it isn't going to happen any time soon'. Anna glances back at Madeline, I'm worried what your mother's creature will do in the meantime, do you have any plan for controlling it?'

OOC,Any sign of the others following behind?

"My mother's what?" said Madeline.

OOC,Both of you may roll Spot Hidden.

'The...how do you say it, "Jaegershreck"'.

"You mean you actually believe her?" asked Madeline.

'Well something happened to Eugene and I can't explain it' Anna protested.

Archie:

OOC:   Critical success!

"If you believe the creature is real, then you must believe that my mother is not insane," said Madeline.

Archie Pennyfeather,[b]Archie[/b] was very confident that they were not being followed.

'It is a little more complicated than that. I suspect your mother may be speaking the truth about some of what she says but that does not mean she is in a sound mind' says Anna. 'And if I was to say that to Dr Stoddard it is more likely I would find myself admitted to hospital rather than that she was discharged.'

Archie:

Archie adds, almost to himself, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio..."

"Well, you don't have to tell him that," said Madeline. "You can just say that in your medical judgment, you feel she can better be treated on an outpatient basis. You can't really blame her for trying to escape. It's the only sane thing to do when you're locked up where everyone thinks you're delusional, even though you know what you're talking about is real."

Archie:

Archie smiles diplomatically. "Madam, your loyalty to your mother is praiseworthy. And I'm sure you will have the opportunity tomorrow or at least within the week to make your case for your mother being returned to your care."

"I'm certain, however, that the sanitarium will need at least today to assess your mother properly, given that she did recently escape. You must be patient for now and hope or perhaps pray for a positive review."

"Thank you, Reverend," said Madeline. "I'll check back tomorrow, then."

'I'm afraid that 'outpatient' psychiatry is not really something we do here. Perhaps your mother might find a psychoanalyst in private practice to take on her treatment' says Anna frostily. 'Ah, we are approaching your home, is that where you would like us to drop you off?'

"Thank you, that will do nicely," said Madeline. "I'm sure that once my mother is discharged, I can find someone to treat her."

Archie:

As soon as the automobile has stopped, Archie will be our and opening the rear car door for Mrs Steadman with practised courtesy.

"Thank you," said Madeline, getting out of the car and walking toward her front door.

As they watch Madeline walk away, Anna turns to Archie, 'I need to get back to the sanatorium, are you coming or prowling around here for a bit?'

Archie:

Archie answers quietly. "Oh no, enough prowling for one day, I think, my luck can only last so long. Back to the sanitarium. May The Almighty forgive me, but I should be happy to have a break from Mrs Steadman for a while."
