IC-Ep 3-Once More Into the Breach(Archie/Benjamin/Anna)

[Mr. Handy]

Maxwell's Sanitarium- London, England
8:10 PM - Monday, September 9, 1940

Archie, Benjamin, and Anna ventured out into the darkness. The bombs were falling nearby, but so far not close enough to be an immediate danger.

With the dim light of the hooded torch Anna tries to get her bearings in the unfamiliar gloom, distracted by the manmade thunder and lightning from distant explosions.

With the darkness and the sound of the falling bombs, Benjamin was starting to second-guess his decision of going out, but the thought of Phyllis spurred him on.

Archie takes a deep breath and looks around, happy to be in action. He looks about, trying to get his bearings.

Archie was able to find the way to St. James's Church without incident. Having been there before surely helped, and there was also the possibility of divine guidance. They made their way to the basement shelter, where Reverend Giles Curry sat on a chair, reading his Bible. Laura and Phyllis were sleeping on a couple of the pews.

"Welcome back," said Giles softly, so as not to wake the sleeping women, looking up at the new arrivals.

[Snapper]

Archie is relieved to see Phyllis safe and sound. He heaves a sigh and says in a low voice to Benjamin and Anna, "Thank the Almighty for guidance and the Royal Navy for beating some navigation skills into a younger me, but we are here."

Archie crosses over to the Reverend Curry and pats him in the shoulder. "Sorry Giles, I had meant to spend more of the day helping you. Best laid plans and all that. Anything interesting happen this evening? Besides another air raid."

[Pastiche]

Benjamin is also relieved that everyone is safe and accounted for. He wants to try and do some preparations in case the monster comes and visit them here. However, the exertion of the last few days is finally taking its toll, and when he sits down on the pews for just a short moment of rest, he finds himself drifting into a deep, heavy sleep instead...

[Mr. Handy]

"No, all has been quiet," replied Giles. "It is good to see you again. How have you been?"

[Mephistophilis]

Anna slaps Archie on the back: "Good job Archie". She doesn't think there's much more she can do tonight and grabs a pew try and snatch a few hours of sleep dazedly listening to the two ministers talking.

[Snapper]

Archie pauses for thought. He could not lie to Giles but he does not wish to burden the elderly rector unnecessarily.

"I've had a rather strange day. I fear there may be people in London using the Blitz to cover their evil deeds. But I'm not sure how to come to grips with those misguided souls. Or what I should do if I did confront them."

[Mr. Handy]

"That is a difficult situation," said Giles. "I've heard there's been some looting. Shameful, just shameful. I wouldn't know what to do either if I came across a looter. Something to pray about, I suppose."

[Snapper]

OOC:   Archie is somewhat familiar with the St James Church and presumably rectory. Does he know if there's a telephone anywhere that he could use to call the sanitorium? (Otherwise he'll ask Giles.) Just to let the others know everyone here is (relatively) safe and accounted for.

OOC,[b]Giles[/b] lets you know that there's a phone in his office upstairs, which he tells you you're free to use.

Anna struggles to sleep, something Story said about the odd phraseology of "hunting in the East End" keeps coming back into her thoughts. Hearing Giles mention a telephone she resolves to wake-up Phyllis and find out what's been happening, feeding it back to the others at the hospital if necessary.

"Phyllis, Phyllis, are you awake?" she whispers, shaking the older lady firmly enough to make sure she is.

"Wh-wh-what!" Phyllis wakes with a struggle and then panics on seeing all the extra people,
"Reverend, I thought I said to wake me before letting anyone in, it's not safe!" Then she looks more carefully at the newcomers and realises they are her companions.

"Oh it's you, thank goodness! I was afraid the Steadmans would find us down here. I've lit all the lights I could find and the Reverend was supposed to Keep the door locked!" She gives him a pointed look, "I'm not sure he realises the danger however." She says in an undertone to Anna.

Revival
