Maggie led everyone around the side of the building, out of view of the tea shop, where they could wait without being seen.

Eugene follows Maggie, keeping his head low.

[Mr. Handy]

"Wait here," said Maggie. "I'll go let them know you're in position." She headed back to the front of the sanitarium.

[Mr. Handy]

Maggie returned a moment later. "Madeline Steadman is leaving," she said. "Anyone game to try to follow her?"

Eugene looks grim.

"We need to finish this, one way or another. Count me in."

[Pastiche]

"I agree, let's go and put an end to this!" Benjamin says.

[Mr. Handy]

"I think it's best if only a few try to follow her," said Maggie. "If we all do, she's bound to spot someone. Whoever's best at sneaking about should try."

"I could do it," suggested Brook. "I followed her before, and she never saw me."

"I'm not exactly light on my feet," Eugene says ruefully. "Maybe it's best if I stay here."

"I'll stay here," says Elizabeth. "Be careful!" she says quietly to Brook, squeezing her friend's arm gently.

Story looks at Brook and says, "Yes, please be careful." He wrings his hands together.

[Turstrigo]

"I'll stay here. Best of luck to you."

[Mr. Handy]

"I will," said Brook, smiling at Elizabeth and Story. "I'll phone the sanitarium if I find out anything. Can't use my mobile here, of course, so I'll have to find a landline." This last resulted in puzzled expressions. "I'll try to take shelter here or, failing that, at the church after the raids start, though I may have to shelter in the Tube. I'll look for you in both places in the morning if that happens."

"Here, lassie," said Maggie, handing Brook some change from her purse. "In case you need Tube fare or something. Good luck."
