IC-Ep 3-Terror By Night(Eddie/Eugene)

[Mr. Handy]

St. James's Church- London, England
8:05 PM - Sunday, September 8, 1940

Eddie emerged first from the church, followed by Eugene who had somehow found the courage to face his fear. There was currently a lull in the bombing, which would make it ideal for moving around on the surface. But where would they go?

Shivering, Eugene follows Eddie out into the oppressive dark. He swallows hard, forcing down the fear that gnaws in the pit of his stomach. Knowing that, as a civilian, he would soon get into trouble if he switched his torch on, he leaves it off for now, relying on the light of Eddie's.

"So what shall we do? Find a policeman, or look for someone more important?"

[Turstrigo]

"Hmm, I think we should start by finding the police station. The Chances are we might find an officer on the way." He gave Felix a little scratch on the chin, then put him back in the basket. Eddie decided it'd would be better to walk the bike to make sure Eugene doesn't get left too far behind. "Limehouse station is the closest one, I reckon."

Eugene nods. Making sure he sticks close to Eddie and his all-important flashlight, he follows the warden towards the police station.
"You should know that, since I encountered that... thing... I've developed a terrible fear of the dark... I'm trying to keep my wits together and I hope I won't fall to pieces."

[Mr. Handy]

Eddie knew the way to the Limehouse Police Station, having been there in the wee hours of the morning, and he led Eugene there. The same white-haired, bewhiskered sergeant was on duty at the front desk. Apparently he worked nights and slept during the day.

"Ah, you're back," he said to Eddie. "You're the chap who brought in that downed Jerry airman early this morning. How can I be of service, sir?"

[Turstrigo]

"Sir, we have information 'bout Catherine Exeter, the escapee from Maxwell's. It's likely she's being sheltered by her son-in-law Major Steadman, and his family. My friend over there found them out tonight and was attacked."

Eugene steps forward, conscious of what a state he must look. He also wonders if anyone will believe his incredible ordeal.

"It's true. They've got some kind of shelter in a warehouse over by the docks. I went in there when the sirens started and heard them talking about killing that girl who was found murdered. They yad some kind of..." He pauses - what to say? "Some kind of nerve gas or weapon. Whatever it was, it was neutralised by light. They're in league with the Germans I reckon." He adds, hoping that mentioning the Hun will cover for the more outlandish claims.

The sergeant's eyes went wide. While he did find this hard to digest, Eugene's genuine terror seemed to help convince him. "It's good you came here, sir," he said. "You shouldn't repeat this to just anyone. It'll just frighten most people, and if it reaches the wrong ears, word may get back to the Jerries." He lowered his voice. "There could be spies anywhere. Right, you should let the air raid warden guide you to a shelter where you'll be safe. I'll get some of the lads and check out this warehouse. Do you know where it's located?"

Eugene recounts as best he can the route he took from the underground station to the warehouse (omitting the fact that he was actually following the Steadmans).

"You'll need military reinforcements though. They won't pull any punches, even for the police. Oh, and takes plenty of torches!"

[Mr. Handy]

"I'll have to call up a squad of the Home Guard, then," said the sergeant. "I don't know if I can get them to listen to me, but I'll try. If not, we'll have to take care of it ourselves, is all."

"Well whatever you do, please be careful - I only just got out of there alive with the help of Eddie here. They're armed and very dangerous!"

Eugene shivers again, remembering the terrible things that happened to him, and hoping that his actions won't expose anyone else to such horrors.

"Oh, and thank you for taking our report seriously - I now how crazy it might sound. We'll leave you to it. Where's the nearest shelter?"

[Mr. Handy]

"You're welcome, sir," said the sergeant. "Don't worry, whoever goes will be well armed. There are a few shelters in the area. Not rightly sure which one is nearest, but your mate Eddie should know."

[Turstrigo]

Eddie nodded. "Indeed, I will make sure to get my friend to safety before, continuing with my patrol. Thank you again for your help, sergeant."

[Mr. Handy]

"Glad to be of service, sir," said the sergeant. "Take care."
