[Mr. Handy]

The orderlies ushered everyone down to the basement. They all carried the various lanterns, torches, and candles, but the flashbulbs were hardwired into the building's electrical system and could not be moved. The basement was lined with concrete, with a small wood-paneled compartment in one corner that served a a water closet. The rest of the staff on the night shift was down here, as were all the other patients: including Catherine Exeter. She looked straight at Eugene and smiled.

[Mephistophilis]

Anna advises the orderlies to keep a close watch on Catherine Exeter given her recent escape and instructs the nursing staff that she is not to use the water closet unobserved.

Then she set about clearing a corner of the basement for Eugene and Angus, as near to the exit as possible and within the light radius of the candles, lanterns, and torches which she arranges around them. She surreptitiously shows them where she carries her keys in case she is incapacitated and they need to leave without her.

OOC,I presume the lights are still on down here?

[Mr. Handy]

OOC,Yes, there's an electric light overhead that's on in the basement.

Eugene sticks close to Anna and the precious light. Trying not to shake, he avoids Exeter’s gaze.

[Mr. Handy]

As he makes himself as comfortable as possible, Eugene cocks his head.

[Mr. Handy]

Eugene Thomson,[b]Eugene[/b] could hear the drone of airplane engines overhead in the distance. He recognized them as those of a squadron of German Dornier 17 bombers, and they were getting closer. They would arrive within a few minutes.

"Can you hear that?" Eugene asks Anna. "Jerry's on his way..."

[Mephistophilis]

'No, can you hear planes? Do you think they're heading this way?' asks Anna.

[jp1885]

“Yes, they’re not far off now...” replies Eugene.

[Mephistophilis]

'Lets get some of these lit in case the lights go' says Anna, gesturing to the candles and lamps.

[Mr. Handy]

No sooner had they got the candles and lamps lit than the sound of the approaching aircraft was loud enough that everyone could hear them. There were also explosions in the distance that were getting uncomfortably closer.

[Mr. Handy]

The explosions were very close now, the blasts causing the room to shake and plaster to flake off from the ceiling. Then the lights went out, plunging the cellar into darkness except for the few candles and lanterns that were lit near Eugene and Angus.
