On the road-
Sean trudged onward along the road toward the intersection. A mile beyond it lay I-80, where he hoped to find a vehicle that could get him back to the truck stop so that he could pass along information and say goodbye. He knew that his bites were going to be the end of him. A lesser man would have succumbed to death's tempting embrace already, but he was tougher than most. He was at least comforted by the fact that his sacrifice had helped Brigetta and the rest of the team take off safely with most of the fuel.

As though his situation weren't bad enough, there was a sudden rumble and shaking of the ground below, as if a minor earthquake had just occurred.

Sean keeps on walking. Part of him wants to go back to the truck stop, but he's beginning to think that's not going to be possible. Even if it was, he risked endangering the others, and he's not sure how long he had left, only it was likely to be short. If it proved impossible to make it back he would spend his last minutes killing as many of the things as he could, if only to make the area a little safer for those who remained. And when he couldn't fight anymore, hopefully he still had enough strength to prevent himself from turning into one of these mindless cannibals.

He hardly pays attention to the earthquake. It's an ill omen, but he'll be dead long before it mattered.

On the road-
Sean finally reached the intersection. To the left, the road led to Brownson, and a mile ahead was I-80.
