Z-Day - 9:29 AM Mountain Daylight Time - North of the T-Bone
On the road-
Michael drove north along the road, with Jenny sitting opposite him. The dirt road went across a narrow bridge over the Lodgepole Creek, and up ahead was an intersection with Route 30, which went left and right from here. The dirt road continued ahead, in the direction the meteorite had fallen.

Michael looks with relief in his rear view mirror as the skinhead-infested truckstop fades in the dust. "I'll just call the police.' He says as he pulls out his phone. "911 isn't it here?" He waits but there is no still no signal and he wishes he still had the old standard issue sat phone handy.

"Damn! That meteor shower seems to have knocked the signal out. Like solar flares do you think, Jenny? " He lapses into silence as he drives and worries how he's going to get his information back.

On the road-
"Maybe," said Jenny, unsure. She tried her own phone. "I've got no signal either."

Michael kept driving north, putting another mile between them and the T-Bone.
OOC,Everyone may roll Astronomy.

"So, what do you know about astronomy?" Michael asks Jenny.

On the road-
"Not as much as I thought I did," said Jenny. "I actually just got a Master's degree in it. I just never considered whether meteor showers could affect cell phone signals. Solar flares could knock them out, or maybe something like the Carrington Event. That happened back in 1859, but all it did was disrupt the telegraph. In today's modern world that's so dependent on electricity, it would be devastating." Another mile passed by. "I think we're about halfway there now."

"Good, look out for somewhere we can drive off the road without the bottom falling out of the car. We'll go as far as we can in the car; there's no point in wasting more time." Michael concentrates on driving.
OOC,Not sure if Michael's astronomy roll worked. Here it is again:[dice]0[/dice] Sorry please ignore that; it IS working now!

On the road-
"In this car?" said Jenny. "I think we'd better stick to the road as long as we can, and I haven't seen any turnoffs since Route 30. Fortunately, it's taking us in the right direction." They kept driving north.
OOC,Everyone, please roll Spot Hidden.

Michael keeps silent. He's busy driving and watching the scenery.

Jenny leans to one side and rests her head on her right hand starting out the passenger side window. "This road might even go right up to the meteorite", Jenny straightens back up and looks at the clock on the dashboard "Shouldn't be much longer, I guess we will know soon".

OOC,sorry the dice roll didn't work at first, then I tried to edit and it seems to have done it twice

OOC,Dice rolls only show up after you submit your post, not when you preview them, so it's possible that it only didn't appear to work. The one shown outside the spoiler button is the one that you made first, even though it appears later in the post, so I'll count that one, which is a success. I'll let you know what you see when I update, but it may be some time before I do that, as I need to keep this thread in sync with the ones back at the T-Bone. In the meantime, you're free to talk to each other.

Michael nods, "I hope so but it's difficult to judge distance out here; the air's so dry." He speaks with a precise British accent and seems to have something on his mind. After a while he says, "Have you had much experience with meteorites?"

Jenny turns to Michael, "Astronomy is a broad subject, I know a lot about various aspects including meteorites but I am no geologist, and I have only really come across nicely mounted pieces in a glass display at a museum. Getting up close to one that has only just come down is pretty exciting to be honest. I can tell you when would be a good time to look upwards if you want to see them, but as to their physical properties I start to get limited."

Jenny pauses for a moment and asks "Is something bothering you?"
OOC,can I roll psychology on Michael - to see whats on his mind?

On the road-
The car went over a few rolling hills, and just ahead the road split. It kept going straight ahead, and it also branched off ahead and to the left. By this branch was a sign that said: "Prairie Militia Society Compound. Trespassers Will Be Violated. Stay Out." Straight ahead, a thin trail of smoke could be seen rising in the distance.
OOC,The second roll (outside the spoiler button) was actually the first one rolled, so I'll count that one. Both Psychology rolls failed, so you'll just have to roleplay learning about each other.

A small smirk sneaks across Jenny's face and she quickly speaks up before giving Michael a chance to answer "That smoke could be from the meteorite or something it hit, they can burn up in the atmosphere if they are too small, they don't call them fireballs for nothing!"

She pauses for a second.

The smirk quickly disappeared "I don't like the sound of that compound, do you think that's where those skinheads came from? I hope they aren't interested in the meteorite"

Michael looks sharply at Jenny and then puts his eyes back on the road, "Racing like a fireball, dancing like a ghost." He hums a few bars of a song and then says, "Id rather not the ghost as we may never find it."

He slows at the sign and then keeps driving straight towards the smoke. "I've no doubt the skinheads cam from over there but hopefully they are too busy at the truck stop to bother us. I wonder what there is to burn out here; what did the meteorite hit? Keep your eyes peeled."

"Never find it? Where there's smoke there fire, in this case the meteorite - it has to be, I don't believe in coincidences. It could be smoking from itself if its large enough, or it hit asphalt, a car - a field. Everything burns if the temperature is high enough."

Jenny scans the horizon.

Michael drives towards the smoke. On constant alert, he often checks his rear view mirror. "Have you ever handled a gun?" He asks suddenly out of the blue.
