Z-Day - 9:04 AM Mountain Daylight Time - On I-80 East
On the highway-
Felice Piccone pulled onto I-80 and made a quick U-Turn, then headed off to the east at high speed. I got out of there just in time! she thought. Got to get to Chicago. I'll be safe there. She was already halfway to Sidney before she knew it.

9:05 AM
On the highway-
Felice noticed the huge fire in Sidney in the distance, but not much else. She zipped past several people on foot as she got closer to the city, all of them moving west along the highway - at least until she passed them. Then they turned around and slowly began to follow her, though she did notice this, as she was not looking back. Up ahead she saw that there was a big pileup. A few cars were stopped, and further ahead it looked like there was a fire burning from a truck. She could hear the moans of the hurt. Realizing that she wasn't going to get any further in this direction with the road blocked, she came to a halt. There was a lot of blood on the road. She could smell gasoline burning. She also noted that there were people on the other lanes going west. They had been walking away from Sidney in the direction of the T-Bone, but now they were turning to her car. She didn’t count but figured there must be 20 or more people spread over a mile behind her.

9:06 AM
On the highway-
"Come on, come on..." muttered Felice, drumming her fingers on the wheel. She saw a man running toward her, rapidly closing the distance. Her eyes quickly scanned the others. It was only then that she noticed that some of the people were in fact consuming others. Those not feeding were moving toward her. Some of those that were walking had been horribly wounded, so horribly wounded that they should not be walking. Felice knew that these people should not be alive, and she screamed in terror.

Yet they were…and they were coming toward her. Some of them seemed to be stumbling, but one was crawling on its hands, dragging bloody stumps that used to be legs. Another kept falling down, getting up, falling down as it tried to come toward her. However, before they could get close enough to attack, she slammed the gearshift and spun the Porsche around so that it now faced west. Expert driver that she was, she managed to pull this off and zoom away, leaving them eating only her dust. They still came after her, but they soon dropped out of sight.

9:07 AM
On the highway-
Felice sped west, whizzing past the T-Bone soon after and continuing. A couple of minutes after that, as she was approaching the exit at Potter, she saw a big eighteen-wheeler with a dented grill heading in her direction from the west. It was blinking its headlights and honking its horn to warn her, and the driver was sticking his arm out the window and waving it.
