Z-Day - 8:53 AM Mountain Daylight Time - At the T-Bone
In the back room-
Horst and Flip entered Boss Hammond's back office in the T-Bone truck stop. Hammond himself sat behind his oak desk, waiting for them, a lit cigar in one hand. "Close the door," he said, "and have a seat." He gestured to a chair in front of the desk that was nowhere near as big or as comfortable as Hammond's own. Flip shut the door while Horst slid into the chair.

8:54 AM
In the back room-
Flip took up a position leaning against the wall beside the door, crossing his arms over his chest.

"You sure kept us waiting long enough," drawled Horst. "Where are our guns, Hammond?"

"Don't worry, you'll get 'em," said Hammond, taking a puff before reaching for a humidor on the desk. "Cigars, fellas?"

"I don't want no cigar. You already got my money. I want our guns."

8:55 AM
In the back room-
"Relax, guys," said Hammond. "You'll get your guns. That trucker fella you just saw leaving, he's going to fetch them for you."

"Good," said Horst. "I'll wait here for him."

"Well, they're some distance away. He'll be a few hours getting them."

Horst grimaced and leaned forward, gripping the edge of the desk. "You trying to pull a fast one, you son of a bitch?"

Hammond let out a strained laugh. "No, not at all! Everything's on the level! Look, just come back this afternoon and they'll be here."

8:56 AM
In the back room-
Horst glared at Hammond, pushing his head closer. "Oh, I ain't goin' nowhere," he drawled. "Not till I get what's comin' to me."

"You'll get it, all right," said Hammond.

"What the f*** is that supposed to mean?!" snarled Horst. "You trying to pull a fast one?"

"N-no! Nothing should go wrong, but if anything does, it's that trucker's fault, not mine."

"You hire unreliable people, do you?"

"No, he's always come through for me."

"Good. Then you got nothin' to worry about."

"We'll just hang around here till we get what's ours," said Horst. "And we will take those cigars." He snatched two cigars, handed one to Flip, and led him out of the office, leaving Hammond alone.

In the back room-
A worried expression on his face, Hammond fiddled with the radio to try to find out what was happening as he puffed on his cigar.

In the back room-
Hammond could get nothing but static on any of the stations. His alarm increasing, he took out his cell phone and tried to place a call, but there was no signal.

9:00 AM
In the back room-
Hammond drummed his fingers nervously on his desk, getting more and more worried. Taking another puff on his cigar, he tried the landline phone on his desk. All he got was a recorded message: "There is a temporary service interruption in your area. We apologize for the inconvenience. Service will be restored as soon as possible."

In the back room-
There was a knock at the door. "Got an applicant for the waitress opening, Hammond," said Rita's voice from the other side. "You busy?"

"Naw, send her in," said Hammond, straightening in his seat.

Beth opened the door and walked into the office, closing it behind her. She handed her application to Hammond.

9:02 AM
In the back room-
Hammond took the form and glanced at it, but he reserved most of his attention for Beth, looking her up and down. "Well, you're certainly pretty enough to work here," he said.

"Excuse me?" said Beth.

"You want the job or don't you?"

"That's why I'm here."

"You'll do. Go see Rosie, she'll get you a waitress uniform and show you the ropes."
