IC-Breakdown(various)

The dead have begun to rise, but they are not the only problem. A small group of survivors at a truck stop in southwestern Nebraska must contend not only with zombies, but with internal division, a nearby group of heavily-armed skinhead survivalists, and even more horrifying dangers. Can they overcome their differences and survive, or will they join the ranks of the living dead?

Outside the garage-
Dave snatched up the fender. It was a bit big and unwieldy for his tastes, but it was better than nothing.

After two gunshots, the shooting stopped. Then Wallace sprinted out of the junkyard like a bat out of hell, gripping his revolver. Smoke was still coming from the barrel. His right trouser leg had a slight gash from which there came a trickle of blood.

"Geez, Wallace, what were you shooting at?" asked Earl. "You didn't get snakebit, did you?"

It occurred to Dave that Earl must have put the body there, or known who did. Everything clicked into place, and he came to the conclusion that Earl was in cahoots with the PMS scumbags who had taken Zoe. Multiple people disappearing here could not be a coincidence. He could only hope that she was still alive.

Wallace takes a minute to recover his breath after his sprint away from that monster. When he has he says, "I shot it twice, both shots would have put a normal man down, but it still f***ing bit me. I'm not sure it can die." He looks around for a first aid kit.

Baldwin doesn't move any closer for the moment, but points towards the junk yard.

Outside the garage-
"Must be some tough-ass snake, Wallace," said Earl, "to take two slugs from your hand cannon and keep movin'. There's probably someone who can help you in the diner, but don't expect me to suck out the poison." He turned to Baldwin. "Yeah, your truck's ready to go. There's just the matter of payment and you can be on your way." Earl rubbed his grubby fingers against his palm, a gleam in his eye. "We can sort it all out in the garage." He led the way there.

Wallace couldn't see any first aid kits outside, but there was probably one in the garage, considering that accidents could easily happen there, or in the diner.

The dogs growled and barked in the direction of the junkyard.

"It's not a fu**ing snake Boss. I told you, it's a mother fu**ing zombie that crawled out of the ground underneath a old Chevy out there." Mitchell says in frustration.

"Dave saw it. The kid saw it. Wallace says he shot it twice and it's still coming and Baldwin says he can still see movement out there. We got to be ready. It's coming for us, man."

"Hold on a minute bro,"

Rather than following Earl into the garage, Baldwin cautiously moves closer to the junkyard to get a better look at whatever he saw. He slowly draws his revolver - just in case those white dudes aren't as crazy as they sound.

Outside the garage-
"Whatever, I'm getting my shotgun," said Earl, heading into the garage ahead of Wallace.

"Something's up with Earl, Mitch," Dave said quietly to his friend. "Did you see how he reacted when you said there was a body under the old Chevy? He was alarmed - but not surprised. You ask me, I think he put that guy there in the first place, or he knows who did. This might be connected to that other thing I told you about."

Jimmy nodded, looking frightened.

The dogs' barking and growling got louder as Baldwin trained his revolver on the movement coming from the junkyard. It soon resolved itself into a man. He was nearly skeletal, much of the skin eaten away by desert creatures. The skin around his mouth had been eaten away, revealing the teeth and skull beneath. One of his eyes was partially consumed, and the hair was stringy and matted. He wore coveralls and shoes. He was about twenty yards away and very slowly shuffling closer. He had three bullet holes: one in the chest, one in the gut, and one in the left thigh, yet he still was somehow on his feet and moving. Baldwin could see to his dismay that the others were not crazy...
OOC,Baldwin, please roll Sanity. Your +20 bonus applies. Sanity loss is 1/1D8, so you lose 1 Sanity if you succeed, but 1D8 if you fail. If you lose 5 or more Sanity, you must roll Idea. If you succeed at the Idea roll, you will go temporarily insane. Otherwise, you may act freely. If you wish to shoot at the man, you are currently at long range, which would normally halve your Handgun skill. However, you may use Precision Aim if you wish to double your base range and negate the skill penalty, at the cost of firing only once this round. Otherwise, you may fire twice. There is plenty of time to do so, as he is moving very slowly and will not be on you for a few more rounds. If you hit, please roll 1D20 on the Missile Weapons Hit Location chart in the Rules and Guidelines thread and 1D10 for damage (2D10 if you get an impale, which is 1/5 or less of your effective skill). Nobody else needs to roll Sanity, as the rest of you have already seen him and done so.
In the garage-
While Earl knocked on the office door, went inside, and shut it behind him, Wallace began to look around.
OOC,Wallace, please roll Spot Hidden.

Outside the garage-
Baldwin retreated back to the garage door, which stood open because the trailer to Wallace's truck was parked partway in the bay, thus preventing it from closing. Dave and Mitchell fled back inside the garage, squeezing past the truck, with Jimmy right behind them. The dogs followed Baldwin back and stood on either side of him, growling at the man, who took no notice. He continued to lumber forward slowly, advancing on Baldwin with his arms outstretched. He was now just about four yards away, close enough for Baldwin to tell just how horrible he smelled and to see the bullet holes in detail. They looked bigger than wounds that could be caused by the dinky .38 revolver he gripped, and they had failed to stop him, though the leg wound appeared to have at least slowed him down.
OOC,The zombie is now at point blank range for you, Baldwin. If you choose to fire, you will get off two shots before the zombie gets to attack you. Point blank range means that your Handgun skill is doubled. Even though this is more than 100%, you should still roll in case of a malfunction or an impale. For each hit, please roll 1D10 for damage (2D10 if an impale) and 1D20 for a random hit location. If you choose to retreat into the garage, you may do so without having to roll, and the zombie will not get to attack you this round, as you can stay ahead of it. Retreating in any other direction means that you'll need to roll against DEX x 5 to get out of the zombie's reach before it attacks.
In the garage-
Wallace could feel himself burning up as he searched for a first aid kit. It was in the very first place he looked, and he snatched it up, sitting on the bench and trying to clean and bandage his bite. However, his mind felt clouded and he could not focus. He did manage to get a tourniquet in place, at least.

Baldwin panics when he sees the size of the bullet holes already in the zombie.

He dashes as quickly as he can deeper into the garage, to where Mitchell is banging on the door.

"Open the damn door!"

In the garage-
Dave dropped the fender and snatched up a wrench, standing beside Mitchell. Jimmy also fell back with them. Wallace threw open the door to his truck and climbed into the cab, shutting it behind him. His rifle was there, where he had left it. The dogs followed Baldwin into the garage, and the decaying man staggered in as well. He seemed to ignore the dogs completely, focused on the humans and emitting a moaning sound.

"Keep your pants on, I'm comin'!" drawled Earl as he opened the door to the office and entered the garage, his 20-gauge shotgun in one hand and some paperwork in the other. Earl took a step back, dropping the papers, “What the hell…I thought you was dead?” he said, poleaxed. Hammond came in behind him with a larger shotgun and gaped in horror. Hammond stepped to the side and stood next to his brother, aiming at the intruder and shooting him square in the chest. While he was knocked back briefly, it did not drop him. Earl fired a split second later, blasting him in the head. He finally fell to the garage floor, unmoving.

Mitchell pauses. "You think we should just dispose of the body right here? Bo's in the diner. We should let him know. He'll believe us if we all tell him the same thing.

Mitchell looks down at the body. "Maybe someone wants to study him. Find out why he was still walking around after he got shot so many times. It might have something to do with all the crazy sh** going down."

"It's too risky," said Earl. "What if he gets back up and tries to take a bite out of someone again? We've gotta burn him."

The body twitched briefly, then lay still.
