IC - 4 - Medical Emergency - Kiara, Sam & Jojo

Barnard's Rest Colony, Titan

Kiara, Sam, and Moses manage to get Chief White's unconscious body onto the maglev back to Barnard's Rest. Moses fretting nervously over him as the train accelerates out of Pumping Station 1.

Arriving back in the colony the three of them sprint to the Medical Clinic in short order and burst in through the door, laying White's pale body on a trolley in front of Jojo. The layer of frost has now melted leaving his skin glistening with moisture but the evidence of frost burns remains on his face and extremities.

OOC,You can roll First Aid, up to two people, only one success needed, in order to provide initial resuscitation. A Medicine roll is needed and around an hour of work to try and revive him and treat any further damage. Roll 1d3 after a successful Medicine roll to see how many HP he gets back.

"Easy, easy." Jojo says as they rush in. "Give me some room and tell me what's happened?"

Jojo goes to work on triage and stabilizing Chief White as he listens to what happened.

"His helmet was breached out on the surface," says Sam. "We're lucky we got to him in time. We still don't know exactly how it happened, but there were tracks leading away from the site of the incident." She stands back and lets the doctor work. While she's good at fixing machines, she's not as skilled at repairing living things.

Possessing absolutely no medical skills, Kiara doesn’t interfere with the Doctor’s work. Instead she busies herself by trying to access the Chief’s suit sensors and activity log (if they exist) in an effort to retrace his steps and ascertain what happened.

Jojo manages to stabilise White, wrapping him in a heat blanket and attaching an oxygen mask. He slowly infuses warmed saline intravenously and watches his physical observations improve. However, Chief White remains unconscious.

Jojo,You could spend the Luck, or you could push the roll - perhaps give him an experimental treatment, say injecting him with cerebral stimulants - might wake him, or it might fry his brain. Or you could just let him recover in the medical bay over time, see if he gets better.

Kiara examines the surface suit White was wearing. It is a little more sophisticated than the regulation suits they put on to leave Pumping Station 1. There does seem to be some kind of control panel attached to the suit and she activates the touch display.

Kiara,The suit control panel is not something you're particularly familiar with, roll Computer Use or Zero/Low G to see if Kiara can figure out how to access the log or sensors

Kiara frowns at the unfamiliar controls on the suit, experimentally pressing a couple of buttons to no effect.

"Maybe I can help," says Sam, coming over to have a look at the suit.

OOC,Sometimes you fail a roll. I'm just going to let time do it's work. I got him stabilized.

Once Jojo finishes with Chief White, he will monitor his vitals and begin preparing the medical report.

Sam is able to bring up the suit log. It is pretty rudimentary, most suits don't have any recording system at all. As far as she can see White went out to Pumping Station 1 earlier today, he was moving around the platform and then walked out towards the pipeline. At that point an error in his radio system is recorded. Then nothing remarkable is noted until it registers a suit breach around five minutes before he was found.

Richards rushes into the medical bay, 'I heard Chief White was injured, what happened?' He busies over the Chief, taking over monitoring his physical observations from Jojo. 'Where was he?' he asks.

"Just outside pumping station 1, not far from the pipeline - looks like he was sealing it," replies Kiara. "We found him lying there with his helmet cracked. Sam managed to seal it and I called it in."

[Mr. Handy]

"There were what looked like vehicle tracks leading away from the scene," says Sam. "Also, CENTRAL didn't respond to an inquiry aimed at finding whoever left them."

[Mephistophilis]

'That's very strange' says Richards looking uncomfortable, 'We don't have many vehicles in the colony, only the surface rovers really, and they're very big and noisy.'

Kiara frowns. “CENTRAL appears to be ignoring certain commands. Perhaps the tracks were from a... you know...“

Keeping her back to any of CENTRAL’s eyepieces she can see, she points to her arm, hoping to allude to the computer’s ARMs.

'Oh no, the ARMs don't operate outside the colony, they're not designed for atmospheric use' says Richards, 'At least, I don't think so. He'd know better...' he nods towards White's unconscious form, wrapped in the heating blanket with wires and tubes connecting to various pieces of medical equipment surrounding him.

Kiara,Didn't she take pictures of the tracks on her datapad?

Keeper,Oh yeah! Damn this goldfish memory! I’ll amend my post.

”Hang on a sec, I took photos! We might be able to prove it one way or the other...”

Kiara accesses the photos on her pad.

Gauging scale is difficult with so little to compare with in the images but Kiara is pretty sure the tracks are far too small to be from any kind of transport vehicle. They are small enough to conceivably be from an ARM.

Richards looks over her shoulder, 'Could be ARM tracks but they don't have any sensors, they can't operate outside.'

Kiara takes a closer look at the photos, certain that they’re telling her something. Could an ARM really be the culprit?

Kiara knows that ARMs or similar automated drones are used throughout the colonies. Usually they have only rudimentary sensory arrays and rely on the base sensors to perform anything more complex than moving around. It is not impossible that an ARM could have left the base but it would need an external source of sensory information to operate, would be at risk of damage from extreme temperatures, and would need someone or something to control it.
