7am Friday 12th March 2010, Holiday Inn, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

Over twelve hours since Regina Balfour was abducted.

After Kris drops him at the Wycombe Police Station, Simon drives to the Holiday Inn and takes a room. He rapidly falls asleep.

It is dark, Simon looks around him, an old church, a ruin, the roof has fallen in and the pews are damaged, maybe burnt. A cross still mounted on the far wall. Moonlight filters through the dark sky, down through the empty space where the roof would have been.

The darkness seems to be closing in. Simon hears a faint noise, like the beating of wings, a dark shape, flitting at the edges of his vision. It coalesces, a hazy, smokey form. Difficult to make out in the gloom but he has the sense of eyes, yes, eyes in the smoke, glowing red eyes.

As Simon notices the eyes they seem to notice him too, he feels the attention of...something...it looks straight at him and...Simon wakes up in a sweat.

The first thing Simon does when reaching his hotel room is order a copy of the Passover Angel book. Then he reconsiders and buys two-- just in case. For an address, he sends them to the police station, reasoning they can deliver them to him if necessary. He highly doubted they could piece together the complex code by themselves.

This done, he gets ready to bed and falls asleep within moments, mind still preoccupied with the mysterious code.

He is shaken when he wakes up, unused to such vivid dreams.

Nasty business, this religious zealotry. Starting to wear on me.

Shortly after Simon buys the books an email pops up on his phone. They will arrive in one week.

Following the unsettling dream Simon falls back to sleep. When he wakes he's a bit more rested but his skin is feeling hot and itchy. He eyes the bedclothes suspiciously.

It is around 11am, he's missed breakfast but there might be somewhere to eat nearby. He knows Jocelyn was intending to take a room in the Holiday Inn as well but he doesn't have her room number.

Simon wakes up in a bad mood, both because of the time it will take the books to arrive, and his skin. Damn bedbugs. He'd certainly be leaving a bad review of this hotel. Really, if the authorities wanted his help, they could put him up in a Hilton or some such.

He calls the front desk and asks them for Jocelyn's room number, insisting he is assisting her and the authorities on a police matter.

Simon receives a call from Jocelyn asking if he wants to meet up for brunch.

"A most excellent proposition," Simon says, accepting.
