IC - 10 - Cooper's Rise - Kris

6.30pm Thursday 11th March 2010, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.

A five-year old girl, Regina Balfour, is kidnapped in broad daylight from the Eden Shopping Centre, while her mother’s back is momentarily turned. Left behind is her ladybird shaped backpack, which contained supplies for her insulin pump. She needs her medication to live more than a few days, and her condition will rapidly deteriorate without it...

IC - 10 - Cooper's Rise - Kris

Post by Mephistophilis »

6.45am Friday 12th March 2010, Cooper's Rise, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

Over twelve hours since Regina Balfour was abducted.

By the time Kris arrives back to his apartment Bina is already getting up. They exchange cursory pleasantries before Kris collapses into bed.

Despite his exhaustion he struggles to settle, his arms, chest, and back are itchy and irritated. Eventually he falls asleep.

It is dark, Kris can hear something, a low whining, he feels himself staggering forward, a dull light ahead of him illuminates a shape, he can just make out a face, strangely misshapen, he can see eyes, a mouth with what looks like blood dribbling from one corner, he gets nearer and he can see the skin is encrusted with blood and some yellowy mucus weeping from tense boils. The mouth opens wide with a loud keening. The volume grows and the sound becomes more rhythmic, more artificial...

Kris wakes to the sound of his mobile phone ringing. He checks the time, it is 8.30am. He answers, 'Hello, is this DC Sapru?, I'm Roxanna Goldfarb, you left a message to call you, what has Lindsay done now?'

Kris blinked away the after images of his dream and said, ”Thanks for calling. Yes, I’m DC Sapru from Thames Valley CID. We’re investigating a missing girl - Regina Balfour - and we have reason to believe that Lindsay may have been involved in some way. Can you tell me when you last saw her and how she seemed to you?”

Kris hears Roxanna sighing in exasperation down the phone. 'Regina Balfour? Not again. She'll lose her job for sure now. Right, anyway, when did I last see her? Wednesday. She seemed, well, she seemed okay I suppose, maybe a little more on edge than usual, but, you know, it's a busy job. I don't really know much about her personal life to be honest but it sounds like it was this Balfour business again.'

”We think Lindsay was involved in the abduction of Regina Balfour yesterday,” said Kris evenly. “I think it would be a good idea for us the meet up.”

'Oh no, of course, can you come here to my office in Aylesbury or do you want me to come to the police station?'

”If you don’t mind coming to the station,” said Kris, whose brain was still foggy with a lack of sleep.

He glanced at his watch. ”Shall we say 11.30am?” he said.

Kris,Kris can do that, but he'll take the penalty for lack of sleep if he heads off back to Aylesbury now

OOC,I’m not sure how much sleep Kris has had, but if he says 11am at the police station instead, would be enough for him to catch a bit more sleep and avoid the penalty?

Roxanna agrees to meet Kris at the station in High Wycombe at 11.30.

Kris falls back down into bed and quickly passes into a dreamless sleep.

-----

He is woken by his alarm at 11am. His head feels groggy and his arms, chest, and back are burning. He can feel little bumps across the skin of his chest, on his forearms he can see red excoriations and there are itchy raised welts in places, some leaking a yellowy discharge that forms crusts on the skin.
